Innovation as a key focus for the platform

Well established presence across Asia

Logistics and risk management expertise complement core commodities portfolio and help mitigate risk.

Operating fleet of more than 200 vessels servicing global destinations for our own business and third-party customers. Our chartered fleets include a variety of vessels, spanning from smaller, 3,000 dwt river barges to larger bulk carriers, such as 210,000 dwt newcastlemax.

About Freight

Louis Dreyfus Company's (LDC’s) unique perspective as both a major charterer and vessel operator, combined with its innovative and comprehensive risk management strategies, allows the Group to offer a wide range of services and support to its internal and external customer base.

While our chartering activities were traditionally focused on agricultural trades, today nearly one third of our chartering supports our diverse third-party customer base, including major global miners, steel mills, utilities, and other industrial sectors. With ever-expanding internal commodities cargo flows, the Freight platform supports LDC’s other platforms, ensuring safe voyage execution and guaranteeing continuity of supply.

As a Group, we abide by strict chartering, compliance and vetting policies, to ensure the fixing of suitable and operationally sound tonnage, for safe and timely execution of our cargo shipments.

Our dedicated Freight team operates from our offices in Switzerland, France, Singapore, the US and China.

Our strengths in Freight

We are known across the industry as a reliable partner, for the quality of service and added value we offer our customers.

In a maritime financial environment marred by volatility and other challenges, we are among the few companies with the global reach and financial strength necessary to deliver on its commitments, today and well into the future. As a member of the Baltic Exchange, we abide by the highest standards in the maritime trade, in addition to living by our own promise to our customers: “Our word is our bond.”

Innovation

In 2016, we embraced enhanced satellite tracking analytics technology to better predict fleet and cargo movements – an initiative which has optimized our global operations. By constantly re-assessing and improving our capabilities in order to gain better market knowledge and by implementing new steps to enhance our market risk mitigation approach, we are well positioned to offer the high quality services our customers rely on us for.

As responsible freight operators, we strongly support the new International Maritime Organization’s (IMO’s) environmental protection regulations, particularly with regards to water ballast treatment and the upcoming low Sulphur Fuel Oil enforcement in 2020. We shall continue seeking sustainable and innovative design solutions, in partnership with international industry bodies, shipyards and ship owners.

The M/V King Milo, used by our Freight Platform, is the first vessel to be produced by Oshima Shipbuilding under their new design, ECO Panamax Bulker Series. The vessel promises to reduce fuel consumption through the incorporation of a new optimized hull form and the adoption of various energy saving devices. The vessel’s energy consumption is rated at 20% lower than new standards adopted by the International Maritime Organization's Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) in 2011. As a result of the vessel’s lower energy consumption, carbon dioxide and sulfur emissions are also significantly reduced. The environmentally friendly design has been given the highest Environmental Awareness Certification by classification society Nippon Kaiji Kyokai's for its achievements.
