Soybean oil is also the second most widely used oil in the world. And soy is not only consumed by humans. Three quarters of the world’s soybean crop is fed to farm animals, especially chickens.

At LDC, we are fully aware that soy production comes with a cost. We are engaging with our stakeholders across the value chain to minimize adverse environmental and social impacts.

To do this, we work with a wide range of experts and partners within the industry and beyond, including a number of certification bodies, that promote the responsible production, processing and trading of soy.

We have also developed our own Soy Sustainability Policy, as a signal of our intent to influence our supply chain to go beyond applicable laws and regulations, in order to address global climate change pressures.

Through this policy, we commit to:

  • Influence and engage with stakeholders to eliminate deforestation throughout our supply chain and conserve ecologically valuable biomes, aiming to discourage and eliminate conversion of native vegetation
  • Uphold the rights of local communities and/or indigenous people
  • Comply with all eight fundamental conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO)
  • Respect protected areas, national and international
  • Not endanger species classified as threatened, nationally or internationally
  • Abide by rigorous anti-corruption and anti-bribery standards

Our commitments are described in more detail in our Soy Sustainability Policy.
