As a global merchant shipping millions of tons of food and other products across the world\u2019s oceans every year, LDC wants to be at the forefront of these reforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s why we have joined the Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI), a pioneering coalition of global shipping companies working to create a more sustainable maritime industry by 2040.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt LDC, the importance of identifying and addressing sustainability challenges across our wide variety of businesses cannot be overstated,\u201d said Sebastien Landerretche, Head of Freight at LDC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis applies equally to our freight activity. We recognize that the SSI can help us to address such challenges in shipping the 81 million tons of agricultural goods that we handle annually, and we look forward to working together towards more sustainable shipping operations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The SSI was founded by a global non-profit organization, Forum for the Future, in conjunction with WWF, the global conservation NGO, and several leading shipping industry companies. It is an independent charity, comprised of ambitious leaders all along the value chain from ship owners, to ship yards, class societies and technology companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a member of the SSI, and a merchant company that takes a holistic, farm-to-fork approach to our business, LDC is uniquely placed to face new challenges, today and into the future and will be able to play a unique role within the initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
