Novos mercados e novas fontes de produtos agr\u00edcolas estavam se abrindo para o mundo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Durante as d\u00e9cadas de 1920 e 1930, os navios a vapor foram substitu\u00eddos por embarca\u00e7\u00f5es movidas a diesel, que eram mais r\u00e1pidas e confi\u00e1veis para lidar com volumes maiores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O Canal do Panam\u00e1 tornou-se t\u00e3o importante para o transporte internacional que o navio \u201cPanamax\u201d &#8211; com dimens\u00f5es exatas para passar pelo canal &#8211; passou a ser o padr\u00e3o da constru\u00e7\u00e3o naval em todo o mundo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A necessidade de uma navega\u00e7\u00e3o mais eficiente favoreceu a constru\u00e7\u00e3o de navios ainda maiores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoje h\u00e1 outro desafio: as mudan\u00e7as clim\u00e1ticas e a necessidade de reduzir as emiss\u00f5es de carbono do transporte mar\u00edtimo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O compromisso da LDC com a sustentabilidade tem que ir al\u00e9m dos nossos produtos em si &#8211; ele deve levar toda a cadeia de valor em considera\u00e7\u00e3o.
