Summary
This position is responsible for providing leadership, management, and subject matter expertise for the daily execution of allocated voyage and time chartered vessels. The person in this position is not only accountable for the efficient execution of the running fleet on the desk, but also for maximizing the profitability of every vessel voyage in close cooperation with the commercial team members
- Plan, implement, execute, monitor and manage vessels operations for allocated voyage or time chartered vessels.
- Allocate vessels within his team and coordinates with other managers to allocate vessels to Operators in other regions depending on workload. Ensure seamless handover of vessel operations to other regions
- Establish performance objectives for each team member in a timely manner, assess performance of this team member as required, provide coaching, foster continuous improvement attitude, identify process gaps and propose corrective and improvement actions, if and when required
- Interact with other operations managers and commercial desk heads (and / or other books they work with) to ensure we are sharing information proactively and addressing issues as they arise
- Be responsible for optimizing voyage results by working toward improving the bottom line on every voyage and time charter. Constantly monitor and emphasize his team members to check through voyage operations software to avoid entry errors and discrepancies that result in artificial PNL swings
- Play an important role in managing customer relationships in coordination with commercial desk heads and the global operations manager through follow-up on assigned customers (customers’ database, active engagement in building customer knowledge and relationship, amongst others)
- Play an important role in managing supplier relationships in coordination with commercial desk heads and the global operations manager
- Coach and develop the vessel operators in the group
- Participate in the recruitment, supervise the training of new hires and existing staff, and provide training assessment and progress reports to management
- Leverage knowledge sharing within the team to maximize effectiveness
- Applied knowledge and technical skills directly related to this position
- Excellent Customer relationship skills
- Proficiency in industry’s requirements and liabilities for vessel operations
- Fluent in English essential with other languages, Bulgarian preferable and Russian an advantage
- Proficient level of PC skills including MS Office and Web Based applications, Shipping System IMOS
- Motivation and the drive to make a difference
- Commercial Acumen and negotiation skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to new situations and work effectively, under pressure, in a changing environment
