Position Purpose
The Assistant Ginner must ensure the efficient, effective and safe operation of all areas under his control and will perform in such a way to be consistent with which they have been instructed, to oversee, manage and ensure all Gin production areas under the guidance of the Ginner are operating safely and within state federal guidelines.

Gin Operation - under the guidance of the Ginner
- Ensure the principals of SHE (Safety, Health and Environment) are applied by all employees under your supervision to ensure a high level of safety is attained and maintained in ginning and plant maintenance within the assigned area of Assistant Ginner role of responsibility of the gin site.
- Operate the Gin to achieve safety, production and quality results consistent with that, which is expected by Management
- Must ensure LOTO procedure systems are applied in all instances whenever a machine is to be accessed or worked on by yourself and or an employee or employees under your supervision.
- Must ensure that all tasks are carried out on the Ginners daily preventative maintenance list. If any task is delegated to a crew member, do not assume it has been done, check.
- The Assistant Ginner is expected to have strict control of normal Ginning procedures such as Module cut offs, grower changes, bale tag sequence, bale pad movements, seed weight, bale weight, scale tares, sample roll numbering, adjustable machinery settings, seed damage and seed tails, product consistency, ensure if at all possible that no bale remnants are made and anything else that could be reasonable expected of someone in this position
- Must ensure Gin Buggy operator picks up the correct module from the yard for delivery to the Gin and keeps the module pads clean.
- Must ensure the bale pad operations are carried out is a safe and efficient manner. Must ensure the bales are stacked correctly and safely. Must ensure the bale fork operators have the correct paperwork and load the correct bales onto the correct truck. Must ensure the trucks are loaded and restrained as per the national transport regulations.
- Must ensure the seed shed operations are carried out safely and efficiently. Ensure the seed shed fill is continually monitored to maximise capacity and load out requirements.
- Ensure truck tarping is carried out safely and assist when required. Truck tarping is one of the priorities of the site and every effort must be made to get the truck tarped and off site in a reasonable time.
- Ensure completion of intra shift and end of shift reports
Housekeeping - under the guidance of the Ginner
- Maintain the physical appearance of the premises and areas under his control to the satisfaction of site Management. Any problem areas must be addressed and notify management. Areas include the Gin and Gin building, Dust house, Trash shed, Bale pad area, Cyclone rack, Feeder bay and entrance to the Gin building.
Maintenance - under the guidance of the Ginner
- Constantly monitor and maintain machinery and equipment to the highest standard to facilitate continuity of production and quality. Any problem areas are to be addressed in a timely manner and brought to the attention of site Management.
- Ensure the LOTO check sheet for machine isolation during machinery breakdown is completed before working on any machines.
- Control the use of mobile plant in your care and to ensure that the operators carry our proper service checks
- Ensure site management are notified of any faulty mobile plant
Employee Supervision - under the guidance of the Ginner
- Assist site Management in the instruction and tutoring of the crew in their duties and responsibilities and ensuring the safety and full utilization of staff at all times.
- In the absence of the Ginner, the Assistant ginner must go around and check on each staff member during the shift for a safety and wellbeing check. The Ginner must ask, are you ok, have you seen anything unsafe, and you must check to ensure the correct PPE is being worn by each staff member.
- Constantly monitor crew member’s performance and efficiency. Any crew member not performing to reasonably expected standards after coaching should be managed immediately and brought to the attention of the site Management
- Ensure breaks are timely and the workload of shift workers is consistent and timely
Work permits
- Must assist Ginner and site management to ensure work permits are completed for any high risk activity.
- Must assist Ginner and site management to ensure work permits are completed for all contractors and conditions of permit are strictly followed.

General:
Must assist with formulation and implementation, comply to and ensure site compliance with the LDC SHE Policy, Rules & Procedures as per the Workplace Health & Safety Act 1995. Is directly answerable to the Site Manager in the absence of a site supervisor/Manager. Must respect the wishes and demands of Louis Dreyfus Management. Must follow Operation Manager’s directions and provide positive feedback. Must consider all aspects of the areas under his/her control as his/her responsibility, and operate & maintain the Gin Plant in accordance with the Operation Manager’s direction and LDC policies. Must assist with employee induction and training when required. Must be an active part of, and attend monthly Safety Committee meetings.
Ginning Season:
The Assistant Ginner is assistant to the Ginner of his/her shift and is to perform in such a way as to be consistent with the way he/she has been instructed, to oversee, operate and manage all areas within his/her area of responsibility to ensure compliance with State and Federal guidelines. Must operate the Gin, to achieve production and quality results consistent with that, which is expected by Management. (Given the quality of the product delivered for Ginning). Assistant Ginner must communicate with ginning staff with particular reference to the opposite shift to facilitate continuity of production, quality and learning. Assistant Ginner must carry out a hand over to the opposite shift ginners briefing them on any issues that occurred during the shift that may impact the following shift. Must assist Management with instruction and tutoring of the crew in their duties and responsibilities and ensuring full utilisation of all crew members at all times. He/She must remember that the operation of the control console is only a small part of the operation of the Gin Plant. He/She must assist the Ginner to constantly monitor all crew member’s performance and efficiencies. Any crew member not performing to reasonably expected standards after coaching should be flagged immediately and brought to the attention of the Ginner. MUST assist the Ginner to ensure LOTO procedure systems are applied in all instances whenever a machine is to be accessed or worked on. Assistant Ginner must at times on behalf of the Ginner, meet with each staff member during the shift for a safety and wellbeing check. Must notify the Ginner of any faults with the equipment. In the event of misuse of equipment, notify the Ginner immediately to address the issue and notify the Site Management. Must ensure the safety and well-being of all staff under his control and consciously promote safety in the work environment at all times. Must ensure smoko and lunch breaks are timely and as per the guidelines. Ensure the workload of the shift workers is considered, consistent and timely. Communicate with the Ginner on any and all issues relating to the Ginning process, including staff issues, OH&S and Environmental issues. Communicate with ginning staff with particular reference to the opposite shift to facilitate continuity of production, quality and learning. Treat people with respect always.
Off-Season Maintenance:
Include all relevant items from the Ginning season reference points that apply for the Off-Season Maintenance program. To work with the site management and Site Manager and other maintenance staff to ensure that the Gin Plant is fully and properly repaired and maintained to the standards required by the Site Manager. The work is to be completed in a timely manner ensuring the plant is ready to run at least 2 weeks prior to the commencement of new Ginning season. Ensure that all maintenance and repairs are carried out in a manner consistent with the guidelines and directives set by the Site Manager. Ensure that all repairs, alterations, modifications etc. are carried out consistent with the integrity of the machine. (It is to look as if it is supposed to be done and must not detract from the look of or unduly effect the operation of the machine) All variations considered must have the approval of the Site Manager. All tools and equipment must be maintained in good order and condition. All tools and equipment must be returned to its rightful place upon completion of the work. No tools are to be left out over night or over the weekend. Training courses are to be attended when required by Management.

Off-Season Maintenance:
Include all relevant items from the Ginning season reference points that apply for the Off-Season Maintenance program. To work with the site management and Site Manager and other maintenance staff to ensure that the Gin Plant is fully and properly repaired and maintained to the standards required by the Site Manager. The work is to be completed in a timely manner ensuring the plant is ready to run at least 2 weeks prior to the commencement of new Ginning season. Ensure that all maintenance and repairs are carried out in a manner consistent with the guidelines and directives set by the Site Manager. Ensure that all repairs, alterations, modifications etc. are carried out consistent with the integrity of the machine. (It is to look as if it is supposed to be done and must not detract from the look of or unduly effect the operation of the machine) All variations considered must have the approval of the Site Manager. All tools and equipment must be maintained in good order and condition. All tools and equipment must be returned to its rightful place upon completion of the work. No tools are to be left out over night or over the weekend. Training courses are to be attended when required by Management.
