As a leading merchant and processor of\nagricultural goods, LDC is in a key position to contribute to addressing these\nchallenges and is committed to promoting safe and sustainable practices in our\nsupply chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As one\nof the biggest producers and consumers of agricultural products, driving sustainable\ndevelopment in agriculture is a high priority concern for China, where field\nresearch<a href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> shows that only 18% of farmers are equipped for, and trained in, sustainable farming methods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LDC and the <a href=\"https:\/\/louisdreyfusfoundation.org\/\"><em>Louis Dreyfus\nFoundation<\/em><\/a> have teamed up with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zhixingjihua.com\/\"><em>China\nEducation Support Project<\/em> (CESP)<\/a>, an NGO promoting social\npractice projects for college students, to help promote sustainable farming by empowering\nyoung talents to lead the change through a project we have named \u2018The\nSustainable Agriculture Future Change-Maker Project\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;<em>The project\nwill train a group of agricultural innovators to inject fresh energy into\nChina&#8217;s sustainable agricultural development<\/em>,&#8221; said <strong>Xia Jun<\/strong>,<strong> Secretary-General of CESP<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the course of three years, the project aims to reach\n200 university students and over 2000 farmers, with the objective to promote\ngood agriculture practices. During the project, the young talents will have\nopportunities to interact with industry experts, deliver sustainable agriculture\nknowledge to local farmers through field practices, and consolidate and share\nlearnings under the guidance of academic professors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>We are very excited\nto launch Foundation\u2019s first project in China, working collaboratively with our\npartners to engage with students and local farming communities to accelerate\npositive change, in line with the country\u2019s efforts to drive sustainable\nagriculture,<\/em>\u201d said <strong>Robert Serpollet<\/strong>,\n<strong>General Manager of the Louis Dreyfus\nFoundation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project\u2019s first training session took place on July 3, giving\n60 students a global overview of sustainable farming development, and run\nonline to address health and safety concerns during the COVID-19 global\npandemic. Another online training was held on July 10, equipping students with\npractical measures to implement sustainable farming field operations, followed\nby a field trip to promote sustainable farming practices among farmers in\nShandong and Hebei in July and August. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>From textbook to\nfarm, the project aims to give students a deeper awareness of practical\nchallenges, and equip them to deal with these, which is aligned with LDC\u2019s\nglobal talent management vision and model<\/em>,\u201d said <strong>Jessica Teo<\/strong>, <strong>Global Head of\nHuman Resources<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>Engaging\nbright young minds and working collaboratively with local communities is a\nfundamental part of LDC\u2019s sustainability efforts globally, as we strive to\ncontribute to the achievement of the United Nations\u2019 Sustainable Development\nGoals,<\/em>\u201d said <strong>James Zhou<\/strong>, <strong>Head of North Asia Region<\/strong>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a>\nSource: China Education Support\nProject (CESP) data<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Working with partners to nurture young talents toward more sustainable farming.
