LDC in South & Southeast Asia

Our regional headquarters opened in Singapore in 1993, which now serves as the trading hub for our origination and merchandizing activities in the South & Southeast Asia Region, which spans across various platforms – Oilseeds, Grains, Rice, Freight, Global Markets, Coffee, Cotton and Sugar – across 8 countries of Singapore, Australia, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Pakistan, Malaysia and Thailand.

This role offers an opportunity to develop your commercial career and gain broad exposure in the Rice team.

Main Responsibilities:

Working as part of a dynamic and multi-disciplinary team, the Junior Trader provides timely and relevant information for the trading activities of LDC Rice platform across the region and globally. This role supports and works closely with the Regional Trader (S) in Singapore in all aspects for daily activity. Travel within the region will be required at times.

Key aspects of the role include:

Information gathering

  • Liaise with other offices/traders in the region
  • Keep regular contact with other market participants (Millers, Exporters, Traders, brokers) in the region
  • Keep on top of and report trade flows
  • Maintain production and surplus / deficit database

Trading

  • Purchase (sourcing) and Sale (marketing)
  • Position management
  • Monitor contract performance of counterparties
  • Manage market/price risk exposure

The role is commercially orientated and requires a strong knowledge of economic concepts with a particular focus on supply and demand analysis.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience
  • Knowledge in the development and use of Excel spreadsheets is desired.
  • Experience in the rice sector and/or other commodity markets would be an advantage
  • Knowledge of Supply & Demand factors, pricing trends and regulations affecting rice trade.

Other Skills & Competencies:

  • Candidates must be a self-starter and motivated.
  • Eye for details, accuracy, and ability to work in a fast-moving environment are required
  • Culture awareness / Risk management
  • Attention to details
  • Adaptability
  • Negotiation and good business acumen
  • Analytical skills

Language:

  • English (Fluent)

Academics

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field of study
