- Provide an injury-free work environment for employees, staff, contractors, visitors through engagement, JHAs, training programs, good manufacturing practices, LDC standards, and proactive elimination of exposures. Continually improve safety record by addressing both physical safety issues and employee safety attitudes. Maintain and improve housekeeping in all areas.
- Initiate plans and processes which minimize seed receiving, meal and oil load out costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials, and capital. Assure attainment of business objectives and productions schedules while ensuring product standards that will exceed our customers’ expectations.
- Establish group and individual accountabilities throughout all the crews on the Material Handler area for safety leadership, problem solving and cost reduction.
- Manage spending against budget and in relation to changes in seed receiving and load out volume.
- Maintain individual skills keeping up to date with latest production and production management concepts.
- Ensure that the product being shipped meets and our customers’ standards, policies and practices through the proper implementation and maintenance of all aspects of quality systems such as GMP and Food Safety.
- Foster a well-trained and motivated workforce and department.
- Responsible for establishing all shift production schedules.
- Assist with the selection and training of all new MH employees.
- Participate in hiring process and conduct MH Shift Leaders performance reviews.
- Participate in annual business planning and budgeting of the plant.
- Expected to spend at least 50 percent of their time in the work areas engaging employees, overseeing seed receiving and loadout areas and troubleshooting. The remainder of their time is spent in an office performing administrative and planning functions.
- Coordinate and leads production startups, shutdowns and changeover
- Coordinate railcar movement in and out of railcars with railroad CN & CP personnel.
- Continually research and refine unloading and loading operations to ensure the best possible usage of assets; maintains a good line of communication with Shift Leaders, MH operators and all areas of the plant.
- Assure that Material Handing employees work safely and follow established safety procedures
- Constantly monitor all rail and truck unloading operations to ensure safety and efficiency of operations
- Periodically inspects the elevator equipment, railroad tracks and general sanitary conditions of areas associated with railcar and truck unloading; assigns personnel to perform sanitary functions as needed
- Originate necessary requisitions, POs and work orders for equipment maintenance personnel
- Working to ensure safety, health, and environmental procedures are in compliance with company policies
Experience
Experience |
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent
- Bachelor’s degree in the areas of Agriculture, Chemical Engineering or Industrial Management is preferred
- Preferred 7 or more years of management/supervisory experience in grain elevator or relevant work environment
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in a food production facility is preferred
- Minimum of 1 year work experience creating requisitions and POs
- An accomplished and engaging people leader, motivated to work together in a cooperative spirit to serve the best interests of the Company
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail
- Proven independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities, and excellent analytical and problem solving skills
- Experience with unionized workforces
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision
- Interact professionally with co-workers, direct reports, peers, Managers, contractors, suppliers and Company business associates
- Basic understanding of rail and logistical systems
- Fundamental knowledge of the shipping and/or bulk handling industry
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite of products
- Proficiency with Outlook or comparable software
- Ability to climb stairs/ladders/catwalks and work at heights sometimes up to 90 feet and above water
