The purpose? To strengthen business relationships through shared experiences and offer our Brazilian partners unique, firsthand insight into a different coffee-growing context.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"560\" height=\"361\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11540\" style=\"width:419px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil.jpeg 560w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-300x193.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Representing approximately 24% of Brazil\u2019s Robusta production, the participating farmers hailed from the states of Bahia and Esp\u00edrito Santo, and were invited to experience firsthand how coffee is grown, processed and enjoyed in Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the course of a week, the group visited LDC\u2019s local warehouses, toured our joint venture <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/press-releases\/louis-dreyfus-company-and-instanta-inaugurate-instant-coffee-joint-venture-in-vietnam\/\">iLD Coffee Vietnam instant coffee plant<\/a> and explored the country\u2019s coffee-growing regions to observe Vietnamese Robusta production up close, accompanied by LDC\u2019s Rafael Barbosa (Senior Coffee Trader), Potyguara Siqueira (Origination Manager) and Rayyan Mahmood (Trader Trainee).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The farmers gained a unique perspective into how a familiar crop takes on new dimensions in a different part of the world, coming away with a sense of shared purpose through a fascinating comparison of two countries deeply rooted in coffee, each with its own approach to growing, processing and consuming Robusta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While both Brazil and Vietnam cultivate the <em>Coffea canephora<\/em> species \u2013 known globally as Robusta and in Brazil as \u2018Conilon\u2019 \u2013 their respective methods reflect the distinct social, economic and environmental landscapes of each country.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange-1024x1024.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11538\" style=\"width:510px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange-1024x1024.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange-768x768.png 768w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange-460x460.png 460w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange-410x410.png 410w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange-732x732.png 732w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange-500x500.png 500w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange-437x437.png 437w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil-Coffee-Exchange.png 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Vietnam produces roughly 27 million bags of Robusta annually \u2013 about 40% of total global production. Much of this comes from small, family-run farms where producers are increasingly embracing sustainable practices and technological innovation for resilience to climate challenges. Despite the smaller average farm size, the country\u2019s robust infrastructure and tight-knit farming communities support high production volumes and growing global relevance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In contrast, Brazil\u2019s Robusta (or Conilon) cultivation is concentrated primarily in the state of Esp\u00edrito Santo, where medium- to large-scale farms leverage advanced irrigation and mechanized harvesting systems for crop consistency, quality and resilience in the face of changing climate conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And the differences go beyond agronomy. Coffee holds a significant place in both societies, though expressed in different ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Vietnam, <em>qu\u00e1n c\u00e0 ph\u00ea<\/em> (local caf\u00e9s) are part of daily life as a gathering place, workspace and cultural ritual, where coffee is often consumed iced with condensed milk (<em>c\u00e0 ph\u00ea s\u1eefa \u0111\u00e1<\/em>) or whipped with egg (<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YR5qRHrbZUw\">c\u00e0 ph\u00ea tr\u1ee9ng<\/a><\/em>), brewed slowly through a metal filter known as a <em>phin<\/em>. The resulting drink is intense, sweet and characteristically Vietnamese.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brazilian coffee culture is equally rich. The <em>cafezinho<\/em> \u2013 a small cup of hot filtered coffee \u2013 is a fixture in homes, workplaces and many public places \u2013 even gas stations! The flavor profile of Brazil\u2019s Conilon \u2013 milder and smoother than its Vietnamese counterpart -carries familiar notes of chocolate and nuts, perfect for long breakfasts or mid-afternoon breaks. Brazilian Robusta is often blended with Arabica or used in soluble coffee products, thanks to its intensity and body.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"624\" height=\"458\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil_processing.jpeg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-11537\" style=\"width:412px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil_processing.jpeg.jpg 624w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil_processing.jpeg-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/co\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/Vietnam-Brazil_processing.jpeg-560x410.jpg 560w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>For LDC, the trip reflects our commitment to work hand-in-hand with producers and partners in fostering shared understanding and growth. This spirit of collaboration underpins our business model \u2013 from commercial relationships to sustainable practices, as a lever for elevated quality and value creation at every stage of the coffee chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The journey was also a reminder that while coffee is often a very local tradition, the dedication to produce it for consumers is a truly global story.
