About Juice

Our juice business offers orange, lime, lemon, and apple juices, as well as natural citrus flavors and fragrance ingredients, dry peel for the pectin industry, and animal feed.

When we process citrus fruits, nothing is wasted. Juice is extracted, oils are recovered and all remaining pulp is transformed into citrus-pulp pellets used as an animal feed ingredient.

Oil essences and aromas are primarily used by the flavor and fragrance industries, while dry peel from ripe oranges, lemons and limes is used to extract pectin, which is sold to the food industry as a gelling agent, thickening agent and stabilizer.

Brazil is by far the largest orange juice producer in the world, responsible for 73% of global production.

Our Juice Value Chain

Our business lines are integrating further across the five steps of our value chain, as we respond to the need for a traceable and responsible supply line from farmer to consumer.

01Originate & Produce

01Originate & Produce

In addition to growing citrus fruits ourselves, we share our expertise with farmers and producers worldwide, ourselves or with business partners and expert organizations, as part of our commitment to responsible, sustainable and traceable supply chains.

Our Strengths

We are involved in the entire citrus processing value chain, from farming to distribution of packaged juices. In addition to merchandizing and risk management expertise, our success in this global business is supported by extensive physical assets, sustainable operations and traceable supply chains.

Our assets include nurseries to grow seedling citrus fruit trees, over 25,000 hectares of citrus groves (with more than 14 million trees) across 38 farms, 3 state-of-the-art processing facilities in Brazil and 2 distribution terminals in Brazil and Belgium.

Our citrus port terminals in Santos, Brazil and Ghent, Belgium are capable of handling both Frozen Concentrate Orange Juice (FCOJ) and Not-From-Concentrate Orange Juice (NFCOJ) in bulk and drums.

We have also invested heavily in transportation, and in 2020 launched two new eco-efficient ships dedicated to the transport of citrus juices and by-products in climate-controlled tanks. In its first full year of operations, our upgraded juice fleet transported citrus juices and by-products from Brazil to destination markets in Europe and North America with lower fuel consumption (down 70%) and shipping emissions (down 18% and 90% for CO2 and sulfur emissions respectively).

In 2022, we successfully completed a biofuel trial carried our in collaboration with Wisby Tanker AB, Sweden (Wisby Tanker) and one of LDC’s upgraded Juice vessels, MV Essayra.

Investing in Research & Diversifying Downstream

Investing in Research & Diversifying Downstream

We continue to explore opportunities to innovate and diversify our portfolio with even more sustainable, high quality, value-added products, including further downstream in the value chain, closer to end consumers.

In 2022, we successfully launched a new product made from not-from-concentrate orange juice presenting a 30% reduction in natural sugar content and more than triple dietary fiber content, while preserving original taste (Brix value) and vitamin C level.

In 2023, we started distributing our juices directly to end customers in China, in partnership with local retailers, and expanded our natural citrus ingredients portfolio with folded oils and fractions, for the flavor and fragrance market.

Committed to Sustainable Juice

As a fundamental element of our juice production strategy, we have built sustainable solutions into our operations across the juice value chain.
