This position performs as staff accountant with functional responsibility over the accounting close including but not limited to: booking journal entries, completing account reconciliations, reconciling intercompany, preparing workpapers, input information into financial reporting system, and complete month over month, year over year and actual vs budget analysis. Additional responsibility to assist Senior Accountant on preparation of budget and adhoc projects.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Book end of month closing entries from front office system ATLAS.
- Prepare the term reconciliation and NA margins file with the relevant reclass entries.
- Book monthly journal entries for prepaid, payroll and noncommercial expenses (G&A, interest).
- Prepare the trial balance, balance sheet account reconciliations, and monthly and quarterly closing packages in Magnitude for relevant entities.
- Prepare the working schedules and support for the monthly close file for Senior Accountant review.
- Prepare the monthly commentaries for the month over month and budget vs actuals analysis for working capital and G&A.
- Prepare the quarterly commentaries for the year over year analysis for working capital and G&A.
- Prepare the ICS upload file into Intercompany reporting system. Ensure that the figures reported in ICS reconciles to back office system by completing an ICS to back office system reconciliation.
- Identify and resolve intercompany variances.
- Prepare required supporting schedules for tax reporting
- Code noncommercial invoices into the noncommercial payment system VIM.
- Assist Controller with regional reporting of budget by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data;
- Back up the monthly cash flow for Grains and Oilseeds.
- Assist Senior Accountant & Controller in special projects and tasks for new process and/or system implementation.
- Assist in the preparation of support for annual audit and semi-annual review activities of external auditors (and internal auditors when applicable)

The following is the basic qualification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, OR a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or Business Administration, with a minor or concentration in Accounting

The following are the basic qualifications:
- 2 plus years of progressively responsible experience in accounting.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required/Preferred (including any physical demands)
- Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (US GAAP)
- Strong analytical and accounting skills. Ability to recognize variances in accounts investigate and summarize articulately explanations for management review.
- Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for both general ledger and consolidation/reporting software. Microsoft Dynamics AX, Cartesis Magnitude and SAP Business Objects preferred.
- Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
- Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with a high level of difficulty.
- Individual will be expected to work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership for his/her work product.
- The individual will work closely with all major functional leaders of the Company.
Working Conditions
Climate-controlled office environment, with exposure to fast-paced trading floor.
Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or to respond to emergencies.
Decision Making/Accountability
- Assimilates information obtained from a variety of sources and independently determines appropriate action steps to enable timely and accurate closing of the division’s books and records.
- Works closely with senior management to provide accurate and timely financial data/analysis.
- Uses knowledge of control and accounting principles and practices to accurately identify accounting discrepancy sources.
- Determines adjustments and makes recommendations based upon analysis.
- Diligently analyzes data to recognize or avoid errors in the performance of control activities.
