{"id":4668,"date":"2020-12-11T10:04:42","date_gmt":"2020-12-11T09:04:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/stories-insights\/recognition-for-work-to-promote-sustainable-agriculture-in-china\/"},"modified":"2023-05-23T16:44:49","modified_gmt":"2023-05-23T14:44:49","slug":"recognition-for-work-to-promote-sustainable-agriculture-in-china","status":"publish","type":"stories-insight","link":"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/en\/stories-insights\/recognition-for-work-to-promote-sustainable-agriculture-in-china\/","title":{"rendered":"Recognition for Work to Promote Sustainable Agriculture in China"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em>Increasing farmer resilience through more sustainable practices<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the beginning of 2020, we teamed up with the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/louisdreyfusfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Louis Dreyfus Foundation<\/em><\/a> and <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cesp.com.cn\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>China Education Support Project<\/em><\/a>, an NGO promoting social practice projects for college students, to start our \u2018<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/cn\/en\/stories-insights\/future-change-makers-for-sustainable-agriculture-development-in-china\/\" target=\"_blank\">Sustainable Agriculture Future Change-Maker Project<\/a>\u2019, recognized in November at the 2020 China CSR Education Awards for its achievements. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"479\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Ceremony-Group-Photo-1024x479.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6643\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Ceremony-Group-Photo-1024x479.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Ceremony-Group-Photo-300x140.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Ceremony-Group-Photo-768x359.png 768w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Ceremony-Group-Photo-670x313.png 670w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Ceremony-Group-Photo-560x262.png 560w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Ceremony-Group-Photo-750x351.png 750w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Ceremony-Group-Photo.png 1349w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>106 university students trained by the project in sustainable agricultural\npractices formed six teams that spent 129 days in villages across Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi and\nother major agricultural provinces in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In their teams, and working with local officials,\nthe students engaged with local farmers to learn about their local conditions\nand challenges, in order to help them adopt more sustainable agricultural\npractices, including water conservation, reduced pesticide and fertilizer use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>The\nproject was a great opportunity to put knowledge into practice, and better\nunderstand the difficulties that local farmers face on the ground. We were very\nhappy to support and help them solve their problems. We are also much more\nconfident about the perspectives of having a successful career in the\nagricultural sector,<\/em>\u201d said Chenyu Xiao, a student from <a><em>China\nAgricultural University<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"672\" height=\"504\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6644\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo-2.jpg 672w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo-2-613x460.jpg 613w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo-2-547x410.jpg 547w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 672px) 100vw, 672px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The project has so far directly benefited 551\nsmall and medium-sized farmers in the country, with encouraging results. For\nexample, the teams who worked with farmers in Qian Tun village, Shandong\nprovince, helped:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reduce corn producers\u2019 spend on fertilizers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increase production by 10% by applying basal dressing. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drive a 10% rise in net profits per acre thanks to increased yields and\nlower dosage of water and fertilizers. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"840\" height=\"453\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-6645\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo1.jpg 840w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo1-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo1-768x414.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo1-670x361.jpg 670w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo1-560x302.jpg 560w, https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/uy\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/Field-Photo1-750x404.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>These achievements were recognized at the 2020 China CSR Education\nAwards ceremony, where the project received the <em>Youth Impact <\/em>and <em>Best\nSustainable Development <\/em>awards for this year, and LDC was honored to be\namong the <em>Top 100 CSR Companies<\/em>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at the award ceremony, <strong>LDC\u2019s<\/strong><strong> Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Asia<\/strong>,<strong> James Zhou<\/strong>,said:\u201c<em>As a leading global\nmerchant and processor of agricultural goods, we are committed to contributing\nto the sustainable development and modernization of agriculture in China<\/em>. <em>We\nhope that through this project, students will be encouraged to pursue a career\nin the sector, and determined to promote China&#8217;s rural revitalization, as well\nas food innovation and sustainable agriculture.<\/em>\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moving forward, the project will continue its work to nurture young talents in China, and to work alongside farmers in the country, toward more sustainable farming and the achievement of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ldc.com\/sustainability\/our-approach\/sustainable-development-goals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\"><em>United Nations\u2019<\/em> Sustainable Development Goals.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Increasing farmer resilience through more sustainable practices At the beginning of 2020, we teamed up with the Louis Dreyfus Foundation and China Education Support Project, an NGO promoting social practice projects for college students, to start our \u2018Sustainable Agriculture Future Change-Maker Project\u2019, recognized in November at the 2020 China CSR Education Awards for its achievements.
