The North America (NAM) Regional Head of Carbon Trading & Solutions will be part of LDC’s rapidly evolving Carbon Solutions Platform in a challenging regulatory, legal and high-profile environments, requiring innovation and capability to build and have effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, network with organizations and carbon standards. The NAM Commercial Director, Carbon Solutions is a position for a self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and responsible individual with the ability to deliver under pressure.
This person will focus primarily on the voluntary and compliance carbon markets in North America: such as California, Alberta, Washington. They are a subject matter expert in the NAM carbon markets and their main task will be to manage, build, and run proprietary paper and physical trading books in NAM. Next to that she/he will be in close cooperation and work together with the originators and rest of the Global Carbon Solutions Platform team be the first point of contact and knowledge center regarding carbon in NAM for LDC.
Main Responsibilities
- Build and or acquire and run a commercially profitable carbon portfolio for the compliance and voluntary carbon markets in NAM.
- Actively participate in proprietary carbon trading in selected NAM compliance markets. Cover full spectrum from origination (OTC) to futures trading.
- Actively contribute to the definition of strategic priorities for participation in the paper and physical trading schemes in NAM.
- Develop and maintain internal and external relationships and network with internal business teams and 3rd parties to establish a leading carbon trading desk in NAM. Be a window to market.
- Keep track, safeguard, develop and monitor profitability, risk (stay within limits) and quality of the proprietary and origination trading books in NAM.
- Identify, evaluate and conduct due diligence assessment of origination project opportunities across all carbon standards and methodologies with focus on agriculture-related project types Identify, analyze and develop products for LDC key customers like carbon credits, carbon neutral ingredients, scope 3 claims and/or impact units.
- Actively contribute to and participate in the establishment of a “carbon expert knowledge center” within LDC to embed carbon within the full value chain.
- Organize / participate in internal workshops and presentations to transfer knowledge.
- Participate in / contribute to other LDC wide climate-related strategic initiatives.
- Develop internal and external relationships and network with traders, customers, organizations, consultants, and other key players / stakeholders to support and lead the carbon-related trading and projects in NAM.
- Source Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) NAM for both trading and internal use
- Report directly to head of global carbon solutions platform.

- 10 year working experience of which at least 5 years in the carbon markets with focus on carbon credit trading.
- Building and running a proprietary book is a must.
- Extensive experience in NAM domestic markets (e.g. California, Alberta, Washington) is a must
- In-depth knowledge of carbon certification requirements and procedures
- Experience in collecting / managing / analyzing large volumes of data.
- Knowledge of renewables’ markets and US and Canadian RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates) is a strong plus.
- Experience in Agri - commodity supply chains, and in forestry and land-use carbon methodologies is a plus.
- Knowledge of GHG footprints calculation and corporate GHG management is a plus.
- Strong analytical skills to understand, use and/or develop methodologies and tools to evaluate carbon balance sheet (supply & demand)
- Knowledge of low-carbon fuel markets and policy (California Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Oregon Clean Fuels Program) is a strong plus.
- Good commercial network
