Role Summary

To identify and manage risks that affect the safe and reliable operation of facility assets to ensure efficient business operations.  Primary focus of the position will be on the use of data gathering/analysis and application of engineering skills in the areas of risk management, loss elimination, and lifecycle asset management and reducing the cost of failure by minimizing system downtimes. To ensure that plant operations run effectively and efficiently.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Produce and implement the site reliability policies for all equipment and systems and procedures, ensuring all planned routines are correctly specified and critical spares are available to allow the maintenance team to effectively complete tasks.
  • Site lead for all engineering Root Cause Analysis and implementation of long term engineering solutions to prevent reoccurrences
  • Manage reliability KPI’s including Downtime Hours/OE, OEE, Mean Time Between Failure (MBTF) and Cost to repair of equipment and systems.
  • Lead role in replacement of legacy CMMS software application with SAP S/4 Hana
  • Supply reliability status monthly reporting figures.  Analyze reliability trends using CMMS data, engineering field studies and FMEA to develop improvement projects to address the issues of concern.
  • Implement technical standards assuring all assets, reliability processes and procedures remain fully compliant with LDC policies, regulatory requirements and GMP status.
  • Leads the site Maintenance and Reliability Best Practices Annual Assessment and is responsible for the creation and execution of Best Practices Action Plans.
  • Analysis and reporting of OPEX spend actual vs budget
  •  Assist in development and execution of the sites annual Maintenance CAPEX plans.
  • Assist in development and execution of site annual shutdown projects.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Required travel, primarily to Seattle, WA, up to 50% of the time
  • Ensures work area is kept clean and free from safety hazards
  • Conducts toolbox maintenance, toolbox safety, benefits, and other meetings as required
  • Participates in plant safety, health, and environmental programs.
  • Accepts/carries out/completes other duties as assigned

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

Basic qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree – Mechanical Engineering or a degree in a similar engineering field

The following is the preferred qualification:

  • 2 or more years of experience in an engineering function at a grain handling/export terminal, manufacturing, or processing plant.
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Experience with CMMS programs, including SAP, and conducts training and follow up with technicians in the use of these systems
  • Experience with an ERP transformation project
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 and BQ-9000
  • Six Sigma
  • FMEA

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

The following are basic qualifications:

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures and industrial processing machinery
  • Knowledge of manufacturing regulatory and safety requirements the facility operates under (e.g., OSHA, EPA, BATF, and IDNR)
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate process control systems, DCS, PLC, HMI.
  • Use of SAP and other CMMS Applications
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to give direction with respect to machine operation/repairs
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at extended heights of 175 feet, manage confined space entry, withstand extended periods of walking and standing, and move manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 50 pounds or more, which requires regular bending and lifting. 

Working Conditions

  • Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or to respond to emergencies. 
  • Frequent visits to industrial operations areas are necessary with exposure to variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions.  Regular exposure to dust, odors and outdoor weather.  Occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise. 
  • Heavy lifting of manufacturing materials and products is required. 
  • Position will require some stair climbing.  Work is sometimes above ground level. 

Decision Making/Accountability

  • Plans and controls the maintenance functions of a grain export facility.  Investigates and resolves any operating equipment issues.
