Overall Purpose

To provide an authoritative, thorough and data-driven view on the short, medium and long-term trends of Malaysian palm oil production. Monitor and provide feedback on factors affecting local palm oil market dynamics. Provide actionable insights.

Production monitoring and forecasting
- Provide an accurate forecast of the spot month and short, medium and long-term trends of palm oil production in Malaysia and Thailand
- Conduct BBC census/crop surveys in major production regions of Malaysia (Sabah, Sarawak, Peninsula) and southern Thailand
- Expected travel commitment of 2 weeks every 3 months (total 8 week per year) to conduct crop surveys. Must have flexibility to adjust schedule and/or frequency according to business needs
- Understand and model production trends from the bottom-up (area, yield)
- Build and maintain relationships with market participants including estate managers/plantations, analysts, government departments
Market information
- Gather, consolidate, analyze and communicate changes in market dynamics that could affect the supply/demand of palm oil in Malaysia
- Monitor any government policy changes and changes in weather forecasts that could affect the market
- Support research and data science teams with data collection, maintenance and gathering as necessary to build up knowledge base and data models
- Monitor market conditions affecting the midstream (refining) and downstream (oleochemical, packing, finished products)
Knowledge and Experience:
(Identify the required of knowledge and experience that apply to the specific job requirements)
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
- 5-10 years or more experience in upstream/plantation company
- Candidates with relevant commercial experience (upstream, midstream or downstream) who aim to move into a Research/Analysis role will be considered
- Understanding of oil palm biology, production cycle
- Agronomist background considered favorably (formal qualification or on-the-job)
- Understanding of Good Agricultural Practice
Technical / Functional Skills:
(Identify the required cognitive and technical skills that apply to the specific job requirements as well as the required abilities to perform– these are teachable and tangible skills)
- Strong Ms. Office (Excel, Word, Ppt)
- Data Analysis to turn qualitative and quantitative data/inputs into actionable insights
