Primary Responsibilities 

  • Unload grain and grain by-products from trucks and rail cars
  • Must be able to handle vibrators, car door openers, spud bars, & sledge hammers
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment and facility
  • Must be able to distinguish different products and report any abnormities to supervisor
  • Follow instructions of Superintendent, Assistant or Lead
  • Follow all LDC safety rules and procedures
  • Responsible for a clean work area, clean facility and general maintenance
  • Authorized level training Authorized level training in LOTO, confined space, and hot work
  • Must be able to be attentive and alert to safely operate door guns and car vibrators and open and close rail hopper doors and hatches as required while working at heights and in close proximity to moving rail cars.
  • Operator must be able to complete a pre and post track check to determine the accuracy of loads and empties on the train list
  • Operator must fully recognize hazards associated with rail and truck operations and take appropriate steps to ensure they and all personnel working in the rail and truck dump adhere to safe operating rules and policies
  • Know and understand duties and responsibilities in the event of an emergency evacuation or man overboard emergency
  • Operator must be able to perform rolling stock inspections on the locomotive and skid steer, and be able to operate the skid steer
  • Operator must be able to preform rail operation switching and car cuts
  • Must be able to proficiently grade grain and recognize foreign materials
  • Must wear all required PPE for the jobs being performed
  • Assist in all areas of the facility as needed

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

The following are the basic qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

The following are the preferred qualifications:

  • Experience using basic software (Word processor, spreadsheets)

Experience

  • 1 year experience working in a Grain Terminal 

The following are the preferred qualifications:

  • 2 or more years’ experience working in a Grain Terminal 

Working Conditions

  • Requires walking outdoors, climbing fixed ladders or stairs
  • Exposure to extreme variations in temperature and weather due to outside work environment
  • Hours:  8, 10 and 12 hour shifts with mandatory extended hours (nights/weekends/some holidays) as needed, depending on rail and truck to arrive and barge schedules
  • Frequent, unscheduled extensions of regular working hours, weekend work is routine- rotating shifts
