Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Manage and execute ocean container booking pickups to meet customer commitments and with LDC colleagues and external suppliers:
    • Dispatch container drayage pickups in a timely and cost-effective manner aligned with drayage carrier capacity commitments, early return dates (ERD’s) and intermodal and port cutoffs.
    • Ensure timely, accurate and complete data entry for container drayage orders into ATLAS.
  • Monitor daily drayage carrier and ocean carrier store door pickup performance against ready date and update ATLAS where necessary with container, seal and load date when not automatically populating.
  • Manage existing relationships with container drayage carriers and develop new ones to build out capacity.
  • Negotiate drayage rates based upon market prices, demand and capacity in consultation with Manager.
  • Review, approve and update drayage invoices where accrual does not match supplier invoice with accounting.
  • Daily interaction with container drayage truckers on load challenges and problems that arise with respective LDC and dedicated warehouses; Inventory and Sales Management for non-LDC/dedicated warehouses and/or ocean carrier’s teams to ensure intermodal and port cutoffs are met.
  • Broader engagement in with the Domestic/International Logistics team:
    • Support day-to-day problem analysis and decision-making;
    • Review physical flow set ups and opportunities to handle shipments more effectively;
    • Help identify, develop, prioritize, and implement process and systems improvements;
    • Cross-train colleagues in container drayage and cross-train in other functions and roles;
    • Model LDC corporate and DNA values and behaviors;
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience 

Minimum five years’ experience directly handling container drayage work within a midsize or larger organization.  

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses 

Bachelor’s Degree, preferred, with concentration in transportation, logistics and/or supply chain management preferred. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands) 

  • Personal honesty, competence and integrity in all work performed and engagement with others.  

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees as well as outside parties to communicate expectations and make recommendations to facilitate change. 

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to organize multiple responsibilities prioritize workloads and perform multiple tasks simultaneously. 

  • Self-directed with a high sense of urgency and strong bias for action in a high-pressure atmosphere on a daily basis. 

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills. 

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows, specifically Excel.
