The Coffee Lab Manager plays a vital role in maintaining and enhancing the quality standards of green coffee beans. This position involves assessing and analyzing various aspects of green coffee, conducting inspections, implementing quality control procedures, and collaborating with suppliers to ensure the highest quality standards are met. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  1. Sampling and Inspection: 

  • Collect samples of green coffee beans from different batches. 

  • Conduct visual inspections to identify defects, inconsistencies, and other quality issues. 

  • Utilize sensory evaluation techniques to assess aroma, flavor, and other characteristics. 

  • Perform laboratory tests to evaluate moisture content, density, and other physical properties. 

  • Use cupping techniques to evaluate taste profiles and identify any off-flavors or defects.

  • Record and analyze data from quality tests and inspections. 

  • Prepare reports summarizing the quality of different batches and providing recommendations for improvement. 

  • Work closely with coffee producers and suppliers to communicate quality standards and expectations. 

  • Provide feedback to suppliers and collaborate on quality improvement initiatives. 

  • Maintain accurate records of quality control activities. 

  • Generate regular reports on the quality of green coffee, highlighting trends and areas for improvement. 

  • Regular communication with traders, marketers, origin representatives. 

  1. Continuous Improvement: 

  • Stay informed about industry trends, new testing methods, and quality control best practices. 

  • Propose and implement improvements to existing quality control processes. 

 

 

Qualifications and Skills: 

  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as food science, agriculture, or chemistry. 

  1. Previous experience in quality control, preferably in the coffee industry. 

  1. Strong knowledge of coffee processing methods and industry quality standards. 

  1. Excellent sensory evaluation skills, including cupping proficiency. 

  1. Analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail. 

  1. Effective communication and collaboration skills. 

  1. Familiarity with laboratory equipment and testing procedures. 

Work Environment: The Green Coffee Quality Control Specialist will work in a laboratory.
