This position maintains operational shift performance for a dry mill ethanol plant.  Primary functions are to ensure that the operators and the distributive control system for the plant remain in good condition to optimize plant efficiencies. Also responsible for complying with all applicable Company standards and government regulations.  This position also serves in a Lead capacity, when the Shift Supervisor is unavailable.

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Maintains operational efficiencies in production, fermentation, distillation, energy center, chemical unloading and inventories, and cleaning of all equipment associated with the production process, and reporting responsibilities
  • Sampling, making operational changes as needed, setting agendas for completion of daily tasking, and backing up Shift Supervisor for leading shift activities.
  • Works in plant operations to accomplish all tasks in a timely and safe manner
  • Leads plant process and procedures for plant start-up, shut down, cleaning and batching
  • Complies with Company safety rules and wears proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required in fulfillment of assigned responsibilities   
  • Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to. 
  • Performs all required production inspection rounds. Records all visual damage and mechanical problems that occur while on shift and submit work orders
  • Ensures orderly shift change by communicating issues and/or ongoing tasks with incoming operational shift
  • Notifies Operations Management of any production or safety problems

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensures work area is kept clean and free from safety hazards
  • Leads shift exchange meetings, toolbox safety, benefits, and other meetings as required
  • Completes tasks as assigned by the Production Manager or Plant Manager
  • Communicate with the Production Manager or Shift Supervisor, when they maybe absent from the plant, regarding projects, and the status of the plant.
  • In absence of the Shift Supervisor, oversees operators on daily activities to ensure completion
  • In absence of the Production Manager, work with the procurement department on all chemicals that may be needed or ordered                                               

     

  • The following are basic qualifications:

                Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures and industrial processing machinery

    Knowledge of manufacturing regulatory and safety requirements the facility operates under (e.g., OSHA, EPA, BATF, NDEQ)

                Knowledge of and ability to operate computer control systems

                Effective communication and interpersonal skills

                Ability to give direction with respect to machine operation/repairs

    Ability to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at heights, manage confined space entry, withstand extended periods of walking and standing, and move manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 50 pounds or more, which requires bending and lifting. 
               

    The following is the preferred qualification:

                Knowledge of ISO 9000

                OSHA 40-hour training certification

                                                                                               

The following is the basic qualification:  High School Diploma/GED

The following are the preferred qualifications:

            2 years’ experience in EtOH production facility working in Operations  

            Associate degree in process operations

The following is the basic qualification:

2 years of experience in EtOH production operation, with detailed knowledge of batch fermentation and distillation production

The following is the preferred qualification:

            2 years’ experience in EtOH production facility working in Operations 

            Associate degree in process operations

Experience in a lead role or supervisory experience

Working Conditions

            Continuous 24/7 plant operation with a 12.25-hour shift, as well as off-shift call-in requirements when needed. Shift rotation will be required to fulfill business needs.  Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or to respond to emergencies.  Frequent visits to industrial operations areas are necessary with exposure to variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions.  Regular exposure to chemicals, industrial cleaning agents, gases, vapors, dust, odors and flammable liquids.  Occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise.  Heavy lifting of manufacturing materials and products is required.  The position will require some stair climbing.  Work is sometimes above ground level.
