This position performs general accounts payable operations including data entry, reconcilement, analysis and various other data collection projects for the accounts payable, accounting or other departments of a regional office of one of the world’s leading commodity merchants and processors of agricultural products with locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.

 

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Prepares coding or reviews coding provided by industrial locations and enters accounts payable invoices into system for various legal entities.
  • Maintain physical files for open and historical accounts payable documentation, and other duties as assigned.
  • Document and communicate coding changes to industrial locations.
  • Support the year-end and mid-year audits performed by external auditors by gathering supporting documents per their information requests.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform research at the request of internal and external clients regarding payment status.
  • Perform research for monthly or other various ad hoc projects to analyze historical patterns, accuracy of postings, and consistency of postings from period to period or company to company, etc.

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

  • The following are the basic qualifications:  High school diploma.  Without having two years’ work experience in accounts payable, some college coursework in accounting is also required.
  • The following is the preferred qualification: Associate’s degree (or higher). 

Experience

  • The following is the basic qualification:  Without having completed some college coursework in accounting, two years’ work experience in accounts payable or other similar discipline is required. 
  • The following is the preferred qualification:  Two years’ work experience in accounts payable.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

The following are the basic qualifications:

  • Knowledge of general ledger accounting practices.
  • Strong data entry and data processing skills.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Strong practical accounting skills.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet and word-processing software, (e.g., Excel and MS Word).

The following are the preferred qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Ability to analyze account variances.
  • Ability to work independently and propose solutions.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet strict monthly deadlines.
  • Detail-oriented

 

Decision Making/Accountability

Applies knowledge of accounting to analyze routine accounts, assists in determination of whether to make accruals or adjustments, identifies sources of discrepancies, prioritizes personal workload throughout the month to ensure meeting of deadlines, makes recommendations based on analysis and consults with supervisor regarding complex issues.
