Overall Purpose and Objective of Position 

This position is responsible for assisting the Regional Head of Safety, Health & Environmental (“SHE”) Manager in promoting and maintain the health and wellness of workers. To identify hazards in the workplace, recommends ways to reduce and prevent hazardous exposures on the job. Conducts training for first aid, safety, CPR, and health programs. Assists in the preparation of accident reports and workers compensation reports. The Regional nurse performs various functions, working collectively and collaboratively with asset managers by developing and following implementation protocols. 

 

LDC operates on 4 days in office, 1 day from home, schedule. 

This position will also require traveling 50% of the time. 

 

Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions 

  • Manage pre-employment process on the physical capacity assessments for every job. 

  • Work to reduce medical cost/indemnity by getting employees back to work. 

  • Assist in guiding the injured worker through the process, allaying his/her fears and answering his/her questions.  

  • Provide training and education on SHE Health & Wellness topics 

  • Coordinate medical exams with HR/Assets, includes annual audiometric testing. 

  • Ensure HIPAA compliance. 

  • Develop medical programs, assessments, procedures. 

  • Ensure medical management throughout the process for assets. 

  • Increase health communication to all assets within the region. 

  • Provide follow-up with employees on Workers Comp. 

  • Improve communication between healthcare clinics/professionals. 

 

  Additional Responsibilities 

  • Ensure protection of confidentiality of all employees 

  • Develop procedures/forms to ensure employees are following doctor’s orders. 

  • Communicate with management on ensuring employees follow restrictions and guidance. 

  • Determining eligibility of personnel to return to work per job description criteria. 

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses 

  • Undergraduate degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing 

  • Registered Nurse (RN) – Registered Nursing license 

Basic qualifications:   

  • 5-10 years of medical experience supporting operations. 
  • Requires approximately 50% travel. 
  • Knowledge of facility manufacturing regulatory requirements (e.g. OSHA, etc.). 
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills. It’s necessary for influencing, engaging, and facilitating workgroups, as well as in managing interfaces with operations, and others. 
  • Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization. 
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Must be able to see, hear, stand, walk, climb, balance, kneel, crawl, and stoop during plant tours and inspections 

Preferred qualifications:   

  • 10+ years or more of medical experience. 
  • Knowledge in practice of OSHA recordkeeping.   

Equipment Used 

  • Typical office equipment: PC, telephone, fax machine. 

Working Conditions 

  • Primarily climate-controlled office environment.  Periodic visits to operation assets are necessary with exposure to variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions.  Occasional exposure to dust and odors.  Some stair climbing is required.  Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.

  • No direct supervisory responsibility. 

Decision Making/Accountability 

  • Accountable for the development, implementation, and auditing of program strategies that promote a healthy workplace, and well-being of all employees and surrounding communities.  Works with minimal direction, is self-motivated and employs a good understanding of federal and state government regulations relating to medical management to ensure compliance, conduct necessary functions and advise others.
