Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions

Monthly and Quarterly Accounting Close Process

  • Assist Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting with monthly and quarterly analysis of operating results for the commodity trading business, including financial reporting commentary and presentation of results (focused on G&A and commercial margin comparisons against budget and prior period actuals).
  • Assist with monthly close entries associated with trade operations, including preparation and/ or review of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and entries recorded into Microsoft Great Plains.
  • Assist in the review of monthly financial results within the LDC Group reporting module, Magnitude, and required commentary.
  • Oversees and reviews monthly analysis to budget for reporting units, ensuring high quality analysis of operations and plans.  Oversees quarterly reporting and related analysis, including overseeing preparation of quarterly data used in regional presentations to global management.
  • Assist Director of Accounting and Financial Reporting with special projects to improve and/ or implement processes and procedures. 

Supervision Responsibilities

  • Oversee, review and assist senior and junior accounting staff.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work with commercial reporting personnel to analyze actual trade/commercial margin activity to understand budget versus actual variances.
  • Help identify areas for operational efficiencies and streamline close process.
  • Provides support and documentation for year-end external audit and half year review.
  • Comply and evidence with proper documentation the Company’s internal controls, standards and processes to ensure accuracy and consistency in data used for decision making and internal/ external reporting.
  • Oversee and implement proper controls and processes for new acquisitions.
  • Support back office and front office system migrations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

Basic qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

Preferred qualifications:

  • CPA License

 

Experience

Basic qualification:

  • Five to seven plus years of accounting or analysis experience. 
  • Supervisory experience.

Preferred qualification:

  • Former public accounting background.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

Basic qualifications:

  • Knowledge and proficient application of accounting principles and guidance.
  • Strong analytical skills.  Ability to recognize variances in accounts, investigate and summarize articulately explanations for management review.
  • Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Good verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize multiple tasks to accommodate strict deadlines
  • Strong analytical skills

Preferred qualification:

  • Proficiency with accounting and commodity contract systems such as Microsoft Great Plains and Magnitude.

  • Typical office equipment: PC, telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator

 

Working Conditions

  • Climate-controlled office environment, with exposure to fast-paced trading floor.
  • Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, physical inventories, attend training or to respond to emergencies.

 

Employee Supervision

  • Supervises a team of Accountants.  Has the authority to recommend hiring, firing, & discipline of employees as well as supervise, manage, & direct work.

 

Decision Making/Accountability

  • Accountable for accurately reporting financial information; inaccurate financial data may result in significant financial losses to the Company.  Ensures integrity of data for a variety of reports produced; identifies sources of error and manually adjusts activity reports; failure to fix errors and upload correct data may lead to poor trading decisions for those who rely on report accuracy.  Verifies and ensures accuracy and consistency of data and documentation prior to entry.  Utilizes knowledge of commodity transactions to accurately identify discrepancy sources, notify appropriate departments/locations and/or independently resolve problems with complicated issues.  Requires maintaining strict confidentiality of proprietary financial information.
