Overall Purpose / Context / Objective of the position:

As the West Africa SHE Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the implementation of best practices in Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) across our operations in the West Africa region. This position will have a dual focus, serving as both the Asset SHE Manager for our facility in Abidjan and as the Regional SHE Manager for West Africa.

Main accountabilities:

Asset SHE Manager for Abidjan:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain effective SHE management systems and procedures for the Abidjan facility in alignment with corporate standards and local regulations.
  • Conduct regular SHE audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive action plans to mitigate SHE risks and improve performance.
  • Provide SHE training and support to employees, contractors, and other stakeholders to foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate SHE considerations into operational planning, design, and execution of projects and activities.
  • Monitor and analyze SHE performance metrics, trends, and leading indicators to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prepare and submit comprehensive SHE reports to senior management, including performance metrics, incident statistics, compliance status, and action plan updates.

Regional SHE Manager for West Africa:

  • Develop and implement SHE strategies, programs, and initiatives to enhance safety, health, and environmental performance across the West Africa region.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to SHE professionals and site managers within the region to ensure consistent adherence to SHE standards and protocols.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on SHE regulations, standards, and best practices applicable to West Africa countries, and advise management on emerging issues and trends.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration among sites to promote the exchange of best practices and lessons learned in SHE management.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies, industry associations, and other stakeholders to stay abreast of legislative changes, industry trends, and emerging risks affecting SHE in the region.
  • Prepare and present regular SHE reports to regional and corporate leadership, highlighting key performance indicators, initiatives, and challenges.

Knowledge and Experience:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in SHE management roles, with at least 2 years of experience in a leadership capacity.

Knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of SHE regulations, standards, and best practices applicable to West Africa countries.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven track record of driving continuous improvement in SHE performance and fostering a safety-conscious culture.
  • Ability to travel within the West Africa region and internationally as needed.
  • Ability to manage a team.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Languages:

  • Fluent in French and English.

Systems:

  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office.
