A recent United Nations report estimated that some 828 million people worldwide faced persistent hunger in 2021, a 46 million increase from the previous year.
Pakistan is no exception, and as food insecurity and malnutrition increasingly affect youth from low income backgrounds in the country, our local colleagues decided to take action!
Partnering with NGO Allah Walay Trust (AWT), they donated PKR 2 million (approx. US$9,200) to the ‘School Khana Program’, which provides healthy and nutritious meals to 200 students from the Government Girls Primary School in Lahore, the capital city of the Punjab province.
In August, a cheque presentation and MoU signing ceremony for the sponsorship under School Khana Program officially inaugurated with the presence of AWT’s Chairman, Advisor to Punjab’s Minister of School Education, and several LDC representatives.
“It was an honor to represent LDC on the occasion of this ceremony, and have the chance to express our local team’s commitment to supporting communities in Pakistan – a commitment that echoes LDC’s global approach to supporting the welfare of communities connected with its activities, for the benefit of current and future generations,” said Bilal Chabra, LDC Pakistan’s Country Head.
Since the program launch, our team in Pakistan were informed that the children have attained a healthier weight, and that the school not only retained its students but even welcomed new ones.
Congratulations and thank you to all our colleagues involved in this worthy cause!
