Veracruz, Mexico, November 10, 2021 – Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) and Iberdrola Mexico announced today the inauguration of a new photovoltaic system that will ensure 80% solar energy supply at LDC’s coffee plant in Perote, Veracruz (“El Cofre”), contributing to the company’s sustainability goals.
Comprising 486 solar panels that cover an area of more than 1,000 m2, the photovoltaic installation will produce 351 megawatt-hours annually, preventing the emission of 184 tons of CO2 each year.
With restricted attendance and in strict compliance with applicable safety and hygiene measures, the opening ceremony was attended by Perote’s Mayor-elect, Mr. Delfino Ortega Martinez; LDC’s Country Manager for Mexico, Juan Camilo Bernal; and Iberdrola Mexico’s Business Director, Vicente Aparicio, among other representatives from both companies.
“The installation in Perote is part of LDC’s global Sustainable Energy Project, initiated to drive the adoption of clean energies to reduce the company’s carbon footprint, and complements similar photovoltaic installations already operational in Brazil, Kenya and China,” explained Juan Camilo Bernal. “This is in line with LDC’s commitment to contribute to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and with our longstanding commitment to shaping increasingly sustainable food and agriculture production chains.”
LDC’s facility has adopted Iberdrola Mexico’s Smart Solar scheme, which means that the installation was set up entirely by the energy company, ensuring that 100% of the energy it generates is clean and competitively priced.
“We are proud that LDC trusted Iberdrola Mexico for the realization of this project, which will help the company reap the benefits of solar energy, a renewable and non-polluting resource that reduces CO2 emissions and helps decrease global warming”, said Vicente Aparicio.
