Louis Dreyfus Company Consolidates Its Presence in Uruguay With the Acquisition of a Grains & Oilseeds Warehouse in Nueva Palmira
Published: Dec 05, 2024

Montevideo, Uruguay, December 5, 2024 – Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) announced today the acquisition of a grains and oilseeds warehouse in Nueva Palmira, department of Colonia, Uruguay, after having operated the warehouse for six years. The acquisition consolidates LDC’s position in a strategic agricultural area just 2.5 km from Nueva Palmira port, Uruguay’s main grains and oilseeds export terminal.

Built on a 10-hectare plot of land, the warehouse employs 15 people in industrial, logistic and commercial activities, with additional operators during harvest season. The facility has a static storage capacity of 38,000 tons and an additional storage capacity of 12,000 tons in silo bags, and is designed to store and condition different crops, such as soy, wheat, rapeseed, carinata and, in the near future, camelina.

“We are glad to consolidate our position in Uruguay, a key origination market for LDC, with this acquisition,” said Mario Sampaolesi, LDC’s Head of Grains & Oilseeds Origination for Uruguay. “The investment reflects our long-term commitment to the country, contributing to Uruguay’s continued development as an important exporter of agricultural goods, and aligns with the Group’s strategy to further reinforce its core merchandizing capabilities, based on strong partnerships with local producers.”

Further investments are planned for 2025 to enhance the plant’s technology and optimize its operational efficiency, as LDC pursues its leading role in supporting the growth of the country’s agricultural sector by offering logistics, storage and conditioning services, fertilizer delivery and financial solutions – from Nueva Palmira warehouse and from other assets that the company operates in Uruguay’s main agricultural areas.
