MONTEVIDEO, URUGUAY, AUGUST 8, 2016 – Louis Dreyfus Company Uruguay (LDC Uruguay) today announced that it began operating its new fertilizers storage and distribution center located in the Km 33,500 of Route 5, in the area of Juanicó, Canelones. The asset has a storage capacity of 40,000 metric tons, and its modern mechanized systems give download speeds of 250 to 300 tons per hour.

“The start of operations of the Juanicó warehouse is a very important milestone for our company: its strategic location and discharge agility ensure rapid reception of the goods from the port, and prompt delivery of the products to the entire national territory” highlights Martin Mendoza, LDC Uruguay Commercial Manager.

Through this new plant, LDC Uruguay will continue to commercialize fertilizers under the global brand Macro Fertil, which offers a wide range of products with the global backing of Louis Dreyfus Company.

“Macro Fertil offers all pure products and physical mixtures required by Uruguayan soil, so as to give farmers a sustainable solution and the quality requirements for their crops”, explains Matias Trotta, Regional Head of LDC’s Fertilizers & Inputs Platform.

More specifically, Macro Fertil covers the full range of nitrogen and phosphorus products for winter crops as well as all traditional mixes for soybean crops. Along with Macro Seed seeds varieties and Macro Protect crop protection products, Macro Fertil constitutes LDC’s integrated solution package for producers to boost their crops.

LDC invested more than US$ 12 million for the construction of its plant in Juanicó. More than 150 people worked during the construction of the plant, which today employs more than 20 people directly and hundreds of people indirectly. Among the latter are dozens of carriers transporting the goods from the port to the warehouse, from where they are distributed to customers and distributors across the country.

“This asset is the result of our constant search to continue offering the best service to the Uruguayan farmer”, continues Mendoza.

The Juanicó plant adds to a set of assets LDC has across the country comprising six commercial offices and two grains and oilseeds storage and conditioning warehouses. Among owned plants and commercial agreements with third parties, LDC offers more than 190 000 tons of static capacity throughout the national agricultural area.
