Celebrating Our Champions for Safety and Health at Work

April 25, 2024

At LDC, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our employees is not just a top priority, and fostering a fair and inclusive workplace that protects the health and wellbeing of everyone working for and with us, is not just a policy.

They are part of who we are, as a company, because we know that our success relies on the passion, dedication, and talent of every member of our teams globally.

Why Does it Matter?

It’s widely acknowledged that most workplace accidents can be prevented through stringent safety protocols and adherence to best practices.

In 2023, LDC invested significantly in risk mitigation and safety enhancements, with a focus on improving process safety and increasingly leveraging technology and automation to enhance safety measures.

We also understand that ensuring a zero-accident workplace requires continual vigilance and commitment to responsible behaviors – from everyone. And that’s where our Safety, Health & Environment (or SHE) teams come into their own!

Safety risks vary across our operations, and LDC’s SHE teams play a critical role in identifying hazards and minimizing risks in each work location. They do so by tailoring policies, processes and training on best practices to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone in the workplace, ensuring compliance with regulations and the highest health and safety standards, and working year round to instill a ‘safety first’ culture in the daily routines of our employees and contractors.

As we mark this year’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work, we celebrate the dedication of our SHE champions in keeping Team LDC safe and healthy, wherever we operate.

Some of our SHE champions from around the world shared their views on LDC’s culture to make SHE a priority all day, every day, 365 days a year.

Our SHE Coordinator for Colombia, Ana Maria, works with colleagues in Mexico and Honduras to ensure a cohesive safety strategy that takes into account local conditions and regulations. She champions a culture of safety and sustainability in our day to day.

“Coordinating safety transcends borders – we tailor, share and innovate to keep our workplaces safe and sustainable.”

This year, the International Labour Organization’s theme for the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is “ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate”, recognizing that as climate change intensifies, workers around the globe are increasingly exposed to hazards such as excessive heat, ultraviolet radiation, extreme weather events and air pollution, to name some of the climate risks.

At LDC, we are mobilizing our teams and resources to control these potential risks and their impacts on the safety, health and wellbeing of our employees, contractors, and communities globally.
