LAMPUNG, Indonesia, March 14th 2018 – Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) marks its ninth Global Safety Day today with a series of commemorative activities at its coffee warehousing facility in Lampung province in the southern part of Sumatra, Indonesia. This year’s theme, “Our Safety is My Priority”, emphasizes each employee’s responsibility in ensuring the collective safety of their colleagues.

A major annual event on the company calendar, LDC’s Group-wide Safety Day involves employees, partners and contractors at every site in the more than 100 countries where the company operates. The initiative is part of LDC’s continual investment and commitment to train employees on safety issues and embed best practice into daily operations to achieve zero accidents in the workplace.

Since 2012, LDC’s global incident frequency rate of recordable injuries has gone down by 72%. Its gravity rate, which records lost time injuries, has also been reduced by 78%. In Indonesia, LDC achieved an impressive 2017 safety performance record of zero recordable injuries and zero lost time injuries across all its assets in the country, a 100% reduction since 2014.

Rubens Marques, President-Director of PT LDC Indonesia, commented, “Global Safety Day reflects LDC’s steadfast commitment to workplace safety, health, and the protection of the environment wherever we operate. Across our assets and offices in Indonesia, we are excited to mark this important event with our employees and stakeholders in our local communities. Taking up our individual responsibility while working together in a collective spirit will continue to ensure that we are actively engaged in creating a safe, healthy and productive environment for all.”

This year’s Global Safety Day celebration in Lampung was attended by some 300 participants, including LDC country and regional managers from Jakarta and Singapore, LDC Lampung employees, as well as local public officials.

Activity highlights included an on-site blood donation drive organized in partnership with the Indonesian Red Cross, a screening of LDC’s 2018 Global Safety Day video where senior leaders answered employee questions on safety, a presentation of the Group’s Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) performance and priorities, as well as safety pledges by employees.

Lampung was also officially announced as the winner of LDC’s 2018 Sustainability Innovation Contest for the South & Southeast Asia Region for its school engagement program with SD Negeri 2 Way Lunik Bandar Lampung elementary school. This annual award is given to the best sustainability projects implemented in each of the Group’s six operating regions in the previous twelve months, supporting one or more of LDC’s four Sustainability pillars: People, Environment, Community and Partners.

Last but not least, an emergency team comprising LDC Indonesia, PT AKR Corporindo Tbk, Indonesia Port Corporation II (PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II), PT Pertamina and Kesyahbandaran dan Otoritas Pelabuhan (KSOP) was launched with the aim of cooperating and sharing resources to handle any emergencies that may arise at the Port of Panjang Bandar Lampung.
