Cotton
LDC entered the global cotton business over 40 years ago. We have grown to be a world leader in cotton merchandizing, serving all major consumer markets today.
We source cotton from Africa, Australia, Brazil, China, India, Pakistan, the US and other key producing regions. In Australia, where we are a leading cotton originator, some 35% of the cotton we source is certified by Better Cotton.
Our Cotton Value Chain
Each of our business lines is integrating further across the five steps of our value chain, as we respond to the need for a traceable and responsible supply line from farmer to consumer.
01
We Originate & Produce
We share our expertise with farmers and producers worldwide, either directly or through business partners and expert organizations, as part of our commitment to responsible, sustainable and traceable supply chains.
02
We Process & Refine
Once bought or harvested, we bring crops to our assets for the next stage in their journey. These are ethically and sustainably processed and refined, coming one step closer to the consumer.
03
We Store & Transport
Our strategically located network of silos, warehouses, transloading facilities and ports allows us to facilitate access to market for local farmers around the globe and enable us to control costs and mitigate risk throughout the product journey.
04
We Research & Merchandize
Our depth of marketing and merchandizing experience is our greatest strength. All our platforms and regions rely on our market knowledge to ensure responsive supply.
05
We Customize & Distribute
We supply products to a wide range of customers, from large multinationals to local manufacturers and retailers.
Our Strengths in Australia
Our Cotton Platform is a large-scale originator and handler of Australian cotton and cottonseed.
In 2024, we expanded LDC’s footprint in cotton origination and merchandizing activities with the acquisition of Namoi Cotton, scaling up our position in the domestic cotton market from our offices in Brisbane and Toowoomba City, where our teams manage the origination of raw cotton and cottonseed from farmers, many of whom have long-standing ties with LDC.
We also offer risk management and financing solutions to key grower groups, aiming to add value to local farmers, as we build our relationship with them as preferred business partners.
Cotton is processed at growers’ site of choice, from among LDC’s 15 gins in Australia.
LDC also operates a vast network of warehouses and seed storage sites, both inland and at port locations, enabling the efficient movement of products – from gin to port, and from port to destination.
15 cotton gins
LDC has the capacity to process 89,000 cotton bales each week across our 15 gins, located from Goondiwindi (QLD) through to Hillston (NSW).
500,000+ bales cotton storage capacity
Our six warehousing facilities in Port of Brisbane, Dalby, Goondiwindi, Moree, Wee Waa and Warren allow us to store cotton with a combined static capacity of 500,000+ bales.
275,000 MT grain packing capacity
We also have 275,000 MT of grain packing capacity, as well as 145,000 MT of bunker storage and 4,300 MT of silo storage.
