Future Change-Maker Project in China

In 2020, LDC partnered with the Louis Dreyfus Foundation and China Education Support Project to train 106 university students in sustainable agricultural practices, who then passed on their newfound knowledge to smallholder farmers.

Working in six groups across more than 20 villages in China’s Hebei, Shandong and Shanxi provinces, the students shared information about responsible fertilizer usage and water conservation technologies with over 550 smallholder farmers.

The knowledge shared led to a significant increase in productivity, a reduction in farmers’ production costs, and ultimately an increase in their profitability.

These achievements were recognized at the 2020 China CSR Education Awards ceremony, where the project received the Youth Impact and Best Sustainable Development awards, and LDC and the Foundation were recognized among the Top 100 CSR Companies.

“By 2022, the project will train more than 200 university students, increasing their knowledge of and practical experiences in sustainable agriculture, and 2,200 farmers will benefit from trainings, presentations and practical experience over the three years.”
