Coffee
Global Highlights
LDC has been in the coffee business for over 30 years, and merchandizes all major Arabica and Robusta coffee qualities, serving a diverse range of customers across the globe, from specialty roasters to multinational food companies
About Coffee
Each year the world produces approximately 10 million tons of coffee, the two main species of which are Arabica and Robusta.
Milder, more aromatic and with less caffeine, Arabica coffee makes up the bulk of world production. It is grown mainly at higher altitudes in tropical and temperate regions of the Western Hemisphere, Brazil being the world’s largest producer.
Vietnam is the largest producer of Robusta coffee, which is largely grown at lower altitudes in tropical Asia and Africa.
Brazil is the world’s leading producer of coffee overall, followed by Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia. The EU (as a region) consumes the most coffee, followed by the US, Brazil and Japan.
Our Coffee Value Chain
Each of our business lines is integrating further across the five steps of our value chain, as we respond to the need for a traceable and responsible supply line from farmer to consumer

Our Strengths in Vietnam
Vietnam is the second largest coffee producing country in the world. We originate, process, store and merchandize Robusta coffee varieties in the country, for both local and export markets.
LDC’s processing plants and facilities are located close to strategic points of origin, facilitating easy market accessibility, and improving the effectiveness and efficiency of our operations.
We have two Robusta buying stations – in Lam Dong and Dak Lak – and a coffee processing dry mill located in Pleiku, Gia Lai province. Our Lam Dong Arabica Coffee mill is dedicated to the Arabica coffee variety, with a coffee processing wet mill, dry mill and warehouse facility. This is LDC’s only wet mill worldwide, and its coffee is shipped all over the globe, including to specialty markets.
ILD Coffee Vietnam, our joint venture freeze-dried instant coffee plant in Binh Duong province, Vietnam reinforces LDC’s commitment to Vietnam as a key market and complements our existing global Robusta green coffee business.
At LDC, we are committed to producing sustainable coffee. To this end, we are working with over 6,000 farmers in Vietnam since 2016 to impart knowledge and skills in areas such as good agricultural practices, agroforestry and gender equality in farming.
Committed to Sustainability
LDC has been a member of the 4C Association and UTZ organization since 2011. In Vietnam, we work closely with more than 6,000 farmers, 30 agents and 110 lead farmers in the highlands region on certification programs.
In addition to the 4C Code of Conduct and UTZ standards, we are also investing in agroforestry and improved agro-chemical management, and harnessing irrigation systems to improve agricultural practices, protect social and environmental values, and increase farming incomes.
LDC also collaborates with NGOs, roasters and other private companies on a variety of sustainability projects in Vietnam, aiming to combat soil degradation, water scarcity, climate change and the negative impacts of hazardous agrochemicals.

Global Code of Conduct for Coffee Suppliers
This Code of Conduct sets out to serve as a common base for our coffee suppliers and is intended to provide them with an understanding of our expectations for responsible practices.
