Louis Dreyfus Company Inaugurates Its Expanded Coffee Facility in Varginha, Brazil
The expansion is expected to drive efficiency gains and enhances logistical capacity with increased storage, processing and shipping capabilities.
Varginha (MG), Brazil, July 1, 2025 – Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) today announced the inauguration of its expanded coffee processing facility in Varginha, Minas Gerais State, further reinforcing its long-standing presence in Brazil’s green coffee sector, in line with the Group’s strategic growth plans and continued commitment to the country.
The expansion enhances LDC’s sourcing operations in Brazil’s largest coffee-producing state, where the Group has maintained a strong footprint for over 25 years. It also added 13,000 m² to the site, bringing its total area to 31,000 m². As a result, the facility will now have storage capacity for approximately 1 million coffee bags and the ability to process and handle over 2.5 million bags annually. The added area doubles the site’s processing capacity and increases shipping capacity by 50%, enhancing operational efficiency.
“Our expanded facility in Varginha is now among the largest and most advanced green coffee processing warehouses in the region, positioning it as a key logistics hub for coffee storage and distribution,” said Arthur Graf, LDC’s Head of Coffee for Brazil. “Today’s inauguration therefore represents a significant milestone for our growth plans in Brazil, reaffirming our long-term commitment to the country and its coffee sector.”
The expanded site features enhancements such as robotic loading systems and box silo storage technology, and optimizes space usage to increase storage capacity. The enlarged facility also stands out for its operational safety enhancements, incorporating systems that go beyond national regulatory requirements, in line with the company’s commitment to the safety of employees and partners.
“This expansion will streamline logistics for sourcing from small and medium-sized coffee growers, to meet both domestic distribution and export demand. With increased storage and processing capacity, we can now purchase and receive coffee as soon as farmers are ready to sell, ensuring a more efficient flow of goods, even during peak harvest periods,” added Arthur Graf. “This offers farmers more convenience and flexibility, enabling them to market their coffee at the most strategic time.”
With more than 35 years of activity in Brazil’s coffee sector, LDC operates three major processing units in the country today – in Varginha (MG), Nova Venécia (ES) and Matipó (MG) – along with seven commercial offices in key coffee producing regions, employing some 480 people in the country.
