Louis Dreyfus Company Inaugurates Cotton Ginning Plant Expansion in Quimilí, Argentina
Published: May 30, 2024

Buenos Aires, Argentina, May 30, 2024 – Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) inaugurated today the expansion of its cotton ginning plant in Quimilí, Santiago del Estero province, Argentina. The event was held in the presence of national, provincial and municipal authorities, members of the local farming community, as well as LDC management representatives and employees.

“This investment is another positive step in the growth strategy of LDC’s cotton business, through which we continue to expand our origination capacity in this key producing region,” said Juan José Blanchard, LDC’s Group COO and Head of Latin America. “We work closely with producers to bring quality, sustainably grown Argentine cotton to global destinations, helping to meet growing demand in expanding domestic and export markets.”

“Our continued investment in Quimilí represents LDC’s commitment to increasing both the quality and capacity of our ginning services, while facilitating access to local and global markets for regional producers,” said Pablo Yezdrich, LDC’s Regional Head of Cotton for South & West Latin America. “In the decade LDC has been operating the facility, we have transformed the plant’s profile by producing not only cotton fiber but also by-products such as cottonseed, gin mote and cotton gin waste, while prioritizing operational safety and sustainability.”

Investments in the plant include new technology and infrastructure to optimize ginning services, double storage capacity and increase annual processing capacity to 60,000 tons. The improvements will also allow utilization of 100% of seed cotton (raw material), including its by-products as feed and biomass, thereby minimizing waste generation in line with LDC’s global sustainability efforts.

The expansion works inaugurated, which coincide with the start of the plant’s 10th cotton season under LDC management, also include the incorporation of a new state-of-the-art automatic press, a new pre-cleaning line, new offices, a grading room, an infirmary and first aid room, night-time lighting towers, improved fire prevention system and infrastructure, and atmospheric protection equipment.
