Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Reviews the daily profit and loss (P&L) reports and ensures the accuracy of daily reported P&L.
- Routinely validates with supporting documentation the market prices used to value positions.
- Independently reconciles complicated discrepancies related to contracts, scheduling and invoicing; collaborates with Logistics and Execution personnel to resolve any problems/issues that may affect the daily P&L.
- Responds to questions from trading and platform personnel related to movements in the P&L data; researches and explains causes of discrepancies between actual P&L movements and P&L movements that are anticipated by the traders.
- Prepares and explains monthly variances between estimates and actual monthly results.
- Prepare the monthly and quarterly gross margin commentary.
- Back up the evening reporting of the North American Grains and Oilseeds daily P&L to the global team using reporting software
- Serves as a point of contact for accounting/trading system issues; maintains various reference tables; arranges profit centers for new trade desks and commodities.
- Addresses special requests/projects, such as performing additional analyses of financial data and preparing ad-hoc reports.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist Controller in special projects and tasks for new process and/or system implementation.
- Assist in the annual audit and semi-annual review activities of external auditors (and internal auditors when applicable)
- Backup the monthly preparation and report of cash flow for Grains and Oilseeds.
- Perform the Estimated vs Actuals Gross Margin analysis for month end close
- Keep track of insurance costs and book month end accruals as needed
- Assist in the monthly intercompany reconciliation
- Back up the monthly close process for open contracts to market and open freight contracts reporting, reconciliation, and intercompany declarations.

- Five years (plus) of experience with the analysis of accounting or financial data.

- Experience analyzing profit and loss data within a commodity trading firm or a financial services business.
Advanced proficiency with MS Excel pivot tables, look ups and filters

The following are the required qualifications:
- Strong understanding of trading systems and how the data relates to an Accounting Department
- Solid understanding of market valuation
- Solid understanding of trading concepts, including physical and financial transactions
- Advanced proficiency with MS Excel
- Strong analytical skills, and the ability to perform independent analysis with strict attention to detail
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet strict daily and monthly deadlines
- Ability to work independently and propose solutions to resolve issues.
Decision Making/Accountability
- Utilizes knowledge of financial analysis and an increasing understanding of trading operations to produce accurate P&L reports and resolve related discrepancies. Ensures accuracy of reported data each day so traders can begin each trading day with correct figures; errors or omissions can delay distribution of P&L data and adversely affect trading operations. Requires an increasing understanding of the origin of P&L and pricing data and the ability to understand and explain how they were derived. Analyzes and interprets volumes of complex data on a daily basis.
