The Coffee platform is expanding its data science capabilities and is now looking for a data scientist to help these efforts. The ideal candidate will have a passion for bringing in new technologies to a commercial environment, will be comfortable dealing with both IT and trading teams and is happy to have objectives change with the needs of the business. The new data scientist will be able to independently answer to business requirements and is willing to get involved in the operational side of data science, including data integration, daily run plans, and improve business resilience.

Over time this role is likely to evolve as the firm invests into its technology stack, and the data scientist will be able to support the business by working on such projects as remote sensing, market analyses and vessel tracking. Wherever possible, the data scientist will be able to help more senior data scientists and researchers in putting forward research that supports new trading ideas.

Position sits in Wilton, CT and offers a hybrid working schedule 3 days in/2 days remote. *This position is not eligible for sponsorship*

Main responsibilities:

  • Work with traders and research to automate and improve accessibility of fundamental data
  • Investigate our internal data sets to help researchers forecast S&D drivers
  • Build and maintain business intelligence / visualization tools
  • Create, data pipelines and debug existing ones
  • Liaise with IT (and other stakeholder) to ensure end to end completion of projects and resolution of any open issues
  • Collaborate with other data scientists in code development
  • Propose new models, new technologies where appropriate

Experience: up to 3 years of experience in Data Science

Education: Degree in Computer Sciences, Analytics or Economics required. 

Languages: English Fluent – any other language an advantage

Systems:

  • Programming skills: Python (a must)
  • Strong database knowledge (SQL & NoSQL)
  • Data visualization tools (Power BI, Dash)
  • Web development: HTLM CSS, JavaScript (nice to have)

Data Science Stack:

  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, Azure DevOps
  • Experience in building visualization apps with PowerBI (Dash a distinct advantage)
  • Experience with big data (PySpark) preferred
  • Databricks

 

Technical/ Functional skills:

  • Strong command of Python programming language (Python)
  • Good understanding of timeseries forecasting models and machine learning techniques
  • Basic understanding and interest in deep learning models
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel, VBA, PowerPivot, Power Query…)
  • Strong command of SQL (relational); knowledge of NoSQL (document based) databases is an advantage
  • Data visualization tools (Power BI and Dash)
  • Genuine interest in global economics and commodities markets
  • Ability to manage big data and summarizing big quantity of data into key/actionable data

Other skills:

  • Ability to collaborate and develop with teams in different locations
  • Project management (time management, work prioritization, dependencies identification)
  • Interpersonal and presentation skills, ability to influence and forge relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Prior experience with data governance is an advantage
  • Ability to work within a complex and international environment
  • Self-motivated
