This position serves as the lead hedge trader for the global vegetable oil platform in North American. Individual drives related positioning in the region and participates in global hedge discussions while supporting the domestic physical business within the US & Canada.  

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Serves as lead North American vegetable oil hedge trader
  • Targets $10M annual P&L focusing on calendar spreads, cash basis, RD/Methyl Ester crack margins, relative value, etc.
  • Contributes to global hedge strategies including relative value, geographical arbs, crush economics, basis, flat price, etc.
  • Supports North American team in the merchandising & trading of physical vegetable oil & biodiesel
  • Ties out cash and futures positions daily & validates daily profit and loss statements
  • Collaborates with the Claypool commercial team, customers and suppliers on truck and rail logistics
  • Participates in North American research with a primary focus on vegetable oils & biofuels & regulatory credits
  • Keeps abreast of all vegetable oil and biofuels trade rule developments (CME/NOPA/ETC)
  • Updates G&O platform on regulatory developments and resulting impacts on balance sheets
  • Develops working knowledge of the EPA’s RFS, California’s LCFS program & other state specific biofuels programs
  • Fosters and maintains 3rd party commercial relationships to expand market penetration & drive information flow
  • Familiarizes self with broader oilseeds complex balance sheets and trade strategies to support desk
  • Participates in the evaluation of business development opportunities and other projects as they come up

Education/Professional Certifications/Licenses

Bachelor’s degree in economics or other business related field

 

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a North American senior grains or oilseeds trading role
  • Solid comprehension of delivery economics and cash convergence
  • Demonstrated trading success

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

Demonstrated leadership capacity and exceptional oral and written communication skills. 

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage and communicate with all levels within the organization

Working Conditions

Primarily climate-controlled office environment.  Periodic visits to industrial operations areas are necessary with exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions.  Occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise.   Some stair climbing is required.  Extension of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.
