About Coffee

Each year the world produces approximately 10 million tons of coffee, the two main species of which are Arabica and Robusta.

Milder, more aromatic and with less caffeine, Arabica coffee makes up the majority of world production. It is grown mainly at higher altitudes in tropical and temperate regions of the Western Hemisphere, Brazil being the world’s largest producer.

Vietnam is the largest producer of Robusta coffee, which is largely grown at lower altitudes in tropical Asia and Africa.

Brazil is the world’s leading producer of coffee overall, followed by Vietnam, Colombia and Indonesia. The EU (as a region) consumes the most coffee, followed by the US, Brazil and Japan.

Our Strengths in the US

Leveraging our sourcing networks across all major coffee-growing regions worldwide, LDC imports coffee into North America through our office in Wilton, Connecticut.

The US market is home to some of the most recognizable coffee brands in the world, and is the single largest consumer market overall today, with a retail value estimated at $75 billion.

Roasters in the US are highly differentiated and increasingly quality focused, producing a wide variety of products, from traditional roast-and-ground coffee to single-serve capsules.

LDC connects these roasters to our broad farmer network, prioritizing sustainability, efficiency and transparency from tree to cup, and offering a range of customization options through programs that ensure timely delivery, exacting quality specifications, and supply chain risk management, and robust traceability and sustainability credentials.

  • As one of the largest coffee importers into the US, LDC supplies green coffee from all major growing regions worldwide.
  • Our local representation offices count on a dedicated team of quality control, logistics and trading experts to connect products with customers according to their specifications.
  • Our approach focuses on customizing coffee grades, delivery specifications and financing structures to match the evolving needs of our customers.
  • Our Zephyr Green Coffee brand is a leading provider of high-end qualities, direct trade linkages and certified coffee to the rapidly growing specialty segment.

Committed to Sustainable Coffee

We contribute to a more sustainable coffee industry through certification programs and collaborative intiatives with customers and expert organizations such as  The Sustainable Trade Initiative that encourages responsible sourcing and directly supports coffee growers to adopt more sustainable farming practices.
