LDC is seeking a Junior Data Scientist, Vessel Tracking to join a dynamic team that develops a vessel tracking ecosystem for the Freight platform. This ecosystem integrates multiple data sources, proprietary tracking and forecasting models, and dashboards that enable the commercial team to make informed trading decisions on a daily basis. You will work closely with the Data Scientists and fundamental analysts of the Freight platform, providing them with high quality data and analytics, ensuring data availability and reliability, and applying best practices in data science. You are passionate about technology and innovation, and you can tackle complex problems with creative solutions.

Main accountabilities:

  • Lead the development and maintenance of the vessel tracking ecosystem, taking ownership of key components and features.

  • Develop forecasting models using machine learning techniques and proprietary data sets.

  • Collaborate with traders and research analysts to generate new insights and trading strategies based on data analysis.

  • Organize proprietary time series data and design visualizations and user interfaces that support traders in their decision making process.

  • Run python backtests to quantify the impact of fundamental factors on market prices.

  • Architect mindset / strong appetence for building long lasting tools.

  • Strong proficiency in Mathematics and Statistics. Economics is also a plus.

  • English Fluent – any other language an advantage.

  • Proficiency in python (pandas, sklearn, xgboost, ..) and SQL.

  • 0-3 years relevant working experience in data science / analytics / timeseries analysis (or equivalent working on PhD thesis).

  • Education: BS/MS/PhD in Engineering / Computer Sc. / Data Science / Statistics.
