This position is responsible for all areas of the day-to-day operations of a grain facility. This position will work closely with the Commercial manager in overall management of the facility and in other areas including SHE, Operations, Personnel, Maintenance, and Housekeeping. Cross-function interaction is an essential responsibility to ensure the success of operations.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
Operations and Maintenance
· Operates and maintains assets safely and in compliance with Company and Governmental policies and guidelines
· Oversees daily operation specific to site: logistics, loading/unloading of grain which may include truck, barge
and/or rail, maintenance and housekeeping
o Writing up barge numbers that are in the slip and entering them into a computer, collecting grain
samples, entering truck and barge grain/oilseed grade and weight details into the inventory system and
billing out loaded barges.
· Overall responsible for maintaining the quality and quantity of grain/oilseed stocks.
· Performs daily/weekly/monthly inspections including: legs, conveyors, mechanical equipment and general
sanitary conditions. Ensures that all safety equipment is in good working order; works with maintenance
personnel to schedule work to be performed
· Responsible for preparing and monitoring the facility budget and monthly PnL review as well as involved with
the development of budgets, Cap X improvements and maintenance plans.
· Implements and communicates operating and maintenance policies and procedures
· Ensures that performance measurements are appropriately utilized
· Ensures employees are provided the required training and indoctrination for the area, jobs/ tasks prior to assigning
work. Follows up with the operations staff to insure they are following proper procedures and wearing the
appropriate PPE.
· Supports and administers approved Company policies, clearly communicates new policies and objectives to all
employees.
· Develops goals and objectives for the location staff and implements training programs
· Interfaces with LDC commercial Teams, forwarders and KC staff to ensure daily operations run efficiently
· Understands and acts upon the commercial customers’ needs and helps implement new business initiatives
· Coordination between the operations and commercial group at the location is key for a successful and profitable
facility. The management team as a whole will need excellent communication and transparency to all issues to
build and maintain teamwork.
· Works with internal support functions i.e., HR, Accounting, Execution, Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE)
to meet organizational goals and objectives.
· Collaborates with the respective Regional Manager-U.S. Gulf or Regional Operations Manager-PNW on
construction projects
· Collaborates with the respective Regional Manager-U.S. Gulf or Regional Operations Manager-PNW and the local plant supervisors to identify opportunities for improvement to the facilities and to resolve production/operating issues SHE (Safety, Health, Environmental)
· Assists with the implementation of safety and regulatory policies/procedures
· Overall responsibility for safety and security of the facility
· Involved in the continuous improvement process and training to improve SHE
· Reviews all incident reports and is involved with corrective action plans
Employee Supervision
· Provides training to direct reports
· Implements corporate programs
· Resolves personnel issues (consults with direct supervisor as needed on certain issues)
· Oversees staffing of the facility on the local level
· Conducts annual performance appraisals and coaching
Additional Responsibilities
· Working knowledge and understanding of the Facility Security Plan
· If it is a union facility – has a great understanding of the local union contract
· Working relationship with the local contacts for the Port, railroads, barge lines, stevedores and vessel agents
· Ensures compliance with all Company, Federal, State and Local laws, regulations and requirements, including but
not limited to permit requirements.
· Completes various other duties and projects as assigned.

Basic qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree, equivalent experience or substantial on the job experience
· Valid driver’s license
Preferred qualifications:
· First Aid and CPR/AED certified
· Understanding of the USDA Grading standards. Licensed to sample, weigh and grade grain
Experience
Basic qualifications:
· 8 years plus of experience in grain/oilseed handling operations (preferably in a supervisory role) or eight years of prior supervisory experience in manufacturing/production/receiving operations, including responsibility for meeting production and safety standards
Preferred qualifications:
· 8 years minimum experience working at a river or terminal grain/oilseed elevator
· Logistics experience working with railroads and barge lines
· Experience managing a unionized facility
· Experience with PnL recaps
· Strong mechanical and electrical background
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
Basic Qualifications:
· Strong leadership skills
· Demonstrates above average communications skills.
· Demonstrated ability to achieve operating efficiencies while maintaining strong labor relations
· Proficient with spreadsheets, word-processing software and web based applications (e.g. MS Office, Outlook, SharePoint)
· Understanding of logistics (e.g., barge, rail and truck) and inventory management strongly preferred
· Knowledge of applicable governmental regulations (OSHA, EPA, SARA, FDA, USDA), personnel policies, etc.
· Basic understanding of operational equipment and maintenance procedures/programs
· Ability to effectively lead terminal personnel by exhibiting high ethical standards, engendering trust and empowering subordinates.
· Understands the basics of grain grading and grain storage principles.
· Ability to climb stairs and ladders as well as work at extended heights of 175 feet, manage confined space entry, withstand extended periods of walking and standing, and move manufacturing materials, products and equipment of 50 pounds or more, which requires regular bending and lifting.

Working Conditions
· Portions of the day will be spent in a climate-controlled office environment. The majority of the work day will be spent outside with routine visits to operational areas resulting in exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions. This may also result in exposure to dust, odors, gases, vapors, wet or slick surfaces and loud noises. Where appropriate, wears personal protective equipment (PPE) in compliance with Company standards and governmental regulations. The extension of regular working hours is occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or respond to emergencies. Additionally, work may be required on weekends and holidays as dictated by business demands. Occasional travel is required

· Directly supervise Company Operation Management which may include Superintendents, Maintenance Supt, Shift Supervisors, Clerical)

· Has the authority to recommend hiring, firing, & discipline of employees as well as supervise, manage, & direct work.

· Oversees daily operations of the facility: logistics, staffing. loading/unloading operations, maintenance and housekeeping
· Oversees and manages compliance for all governmental and LDC policies and procedures
· Makes daily decisions as they relate to cost control and efficient operation of the facility (budget)

· Is an active member of the facility SHE Program. Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to. Ensures employees are provided required training for area assigned, and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work. Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner. Ensures unsafe working conditions are remedied as soon as practicable.
