General Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for all aspects of production and operations in their assigned area.  This person will work independently with supervision to help develop and support the goals and strategies of LDC and the facility. 

 

  • Ensure all applicable government regulations are met at all times.
  • Complete regular checks of staff and equipment to ensure that standard operating procedures are followed and Company standards are met.
  • Maintain proper coverage by managing the maintenance staffing schedules
  • Make improvements to the process as necessary to maximize efficiency, increase product quality and/or lower costs.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Plant Manager and the maintenance staff
  • Notify the Plant Manager of potential safety hazards, equipment failures, operational inconsistencies and employee incidents.
  • Coach staff on the Company’s performance expectations and provide on-going performance feedback
  • Establish and maintain a spare parts inventory management system.
  • Establish and improve the Preventive Maintenance program.
  • Manage our Predictive Maintenance system and drive your department towards Reliability Centered Maintenance culture.
  • Actively participate in the detailed engineering and construction stage of the PPI plant in Yorkton by providing industry input to the engineering and construction teams and liaison with Yorkton Facility.

  • Take a leadership role in the procurement of the different packages during the construction project and spare parts once the plant is operational.

  • Provide support to the engineering team in the planning and execution of the commission and startup of the plant.

  • Assist in site construction management whenever needed.  Ensure that project goals are met.  Prepare the new projects for commissioning and startup
  • Develop training and operating procedures as needed / directed.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and discharge staff as needed.
  • Direct and coordinate all maintenance activities with production management.
  • Review operations and confer with technical or administrative resources to resolve production opportunities, improve efficiency, or otherwise reduce cost
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Plant Manager or other executives
  • Coaches, trains and provides support to direct reports
  • This position will require intermittent travel.  The travel may include weekend stays and travel outside of Canada
  • Is an active member of the facility SHE Program.  Maintains good working knowledge of SHE policies, rules and procedures applicable to area of responsibility and ensures all applicable requirements are adhered to.  Ensures employees are provided required training for area assigned, and jobs and tasks prior to assigning work.  Ensures area of responsibility is maintained in orderly and safe manner.  Ensures unsafe working conditions are remedied as soon as practicable.  

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (Mechanical, Electrical) Preference for Mechanical Engineering degree.

Experience

  • 5+ years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Knowledge/Skills/Licenses

  • Demonstrated leadership ability in a plant management position.  Able to set clear, reasonable expectations and hold staff accountable
  • Demonstrated ability to provide and maintain a safe and effective working environment.
  • Project development and management experience.
  • Reliability-Centered Maintenance training and experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience with condition based maintenance and Root Cause Failure Analysis
  • Advanced knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Working knowledge of budgets, process reports, and other financial statements.
  • Proficient with standard software products
  • Previous experience with Six Sigma is an asset

 

Equipment Used

  • Use of computers for entering data into electronic data systems and control of maintenance related items
  • Use of OH & S testing equipment in compliance with OH & S regulations
  • Operate from time to time plant vehicles and equipment (e.g., air monitors, respirators) needed to load or offload equipment
  • Use of hand / power tools
  • Use and ensure the use of proper PPE when needed
  • Operate machinery, rail cars, plant vehicles

Working Conditions

Continuous 24/7 plant operation with 12-hour rotational shifts, as well as off-shift call-in requirements when needed.

  • Physical Effort: Heavy lifting of manufacturing materials and products is required. Position will require regular stair climbing and extended periods of walking and standing in order to access and occasionally work in remote areas of the plant, heights and confined spaces. Personal Protective Equipment will be worn in compliance with Company standards and government regulations. Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects, attend training or to respond to emergencies
  • Physical Environment:   Work in a continuous 24/7 plant operation with regular exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions; regular exposure to gases, vapors, dust, odors and flammable liquids; occasional exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise
  • Mental Stress:  Must be well organized, self motivated and be able to work effectively under pressure or unexpected timelines.
