The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing general accounting duties including compilation, consolidation and analysis of financial data, etc. This role requires an understanding of accounting fundamentals and principles and bookkeeping experience. This role handles the ledgers and preparation of journal entries, fixed asset or inventory accounting, preparation of trial balance or financial statements, cost accounting, bank account reconciliation, etc.

Main Responsibilities:

Accounting:

  • Reconcile accounts and maintain the general ledger
  • Conduct monthly balance sheet review analysis
  • Collaborate with the SBS team (shared accounting staff) on reconciliations and journal entries

Treasury:

  • Provide daily information regarding cash inflows and outflows
  • Liaise with the bank for cash transactions and administrative documents
  • Assist in managing cash flow and working capital

Reporting:

  • Prepare and review financial statements and reports
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes
  • Analyze and comment on variances against the budget
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights to the Finance Manager
  • Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports
  • Contribute to budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Analyze and comment on variances against the budget

Statutory/Internal Control:

  • Review financial statements and reports
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal policies
  • Participate in audits and liaise with external auditors
  • Follow up on internal control rules
  • Engage in process improvement initiatives

Additionally, the role involves participation in the Africa Finance Development Program, which aims to enhance financial practices and development across the region.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (BAC+4)
  • Charted Accountant certification  will be a plus

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in accounting, controlling and reporting - with a very strong accounting knowledge
  • Experience in audit is ideal

Technical skills/knowledge:

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting, budgeting, cost accounting, and cost control principles
  • Diplomatic with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong cash, tax, and analytical approach
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Controlling to develop various reports
  • Proficiency with MS Tool
  • Capable of thriving in a fast-paced, stimulating environment
  • Strong record keeping skills

Language:

  • Fluent in English and French (writing and verbal communication)

Stakeholders:

Internal: Finance Shared Services Centre, Platforms, Internal audit and local departments

External: Local Regulatory authorities, External auditors, Banks, etc.
