This position schedules, directs LDC outside labor crews; coordinates with labor contractors to schedule contract labor; supervises as necessary outside production crews in the house, barge and rail unloading and coordinates these efforts with the control room supervisors and maintenance superintendent.

This position requires rotating shifts (7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.)

  • Identify priority housekeeping areas and assign labor necessary to address each area. Daily 20%
  • Coordinate daily with the control room: Bin cleaning, daily labor scheduling; rail and barge unloading schedules; anticipated truck unloads. Daily 20%
  • Coordinate daily with the maintenance superintendent; supply labor as necessary to support maintenance activities. Daily 20%
  • Provide guidance to employees in practical application of safety policies and procedures. Assist the SHE manager with monthly training, conduct tool box meetings, complete permits, and conduct audits of safety and operational procedures. Daily 25%
  • Provide daily supervision and support to the barge unloading and vessel loading teams. Assist as necessary in the planning of daily barge unloading activities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform miscellaneous assignments as needed and directed by General
  • Superintendent and LDC management.
  • Insures that windows for maintenance repairs are appropriately prioritized,
  • scheduled and completed in a safe and expeditious manner.
  • Utilizes experience and knowledge to mentor and train new supervision and employees.
  • Serves as a coordination and communications conduit between operations, maintenance and safety; and between the Control Room and all outside operations, maintenance and both labor and general contractors.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

2 or 4 year college degree preferred

 

Experience:

Five years of experience in grain industry increasing responsibility in the areas of mechanical and electrical maintenance, grain handling, and supervision

Prior supervisory experience

Prior grain elevator management experience

Prior exposure to ILWU work force preferred

 

Knowledge/Skills/Licenses:

Two plus years in operations supervision

Superior knowledge of OSHA, Food Safety, Grain Standards, and Environmental regulations

Demonstrated ability to manage change within the work force

Demonstrated skills of team building and conflict resolution

Effective communication (verbal, written, presentation) skills

Broad knowledge of industrial machinery, including preventive maintenance, repairs, and replacement equipment

Strong working knowledge of computer operations

Thorough understanding of plant operations

Understanding of electrical systems helpful

Working Conditions

Requires supervisor to be available 24 hours per day

Exposed to variations in temperature and weather

Requires climbing ladders and catwalks

Requires occasional lifting of objects weighing at least 50 pounds

Requires wearing safety equipment at times, including safety belts/harnesses and ear, eye, and respiration protection.

Assists in establishing and maintaining facility budget

Sets labor requirements on daily basis

Can shut down plant machinery, systems, and operations
