Purpose and Objective of Position
With minimal supervision the Laboratory Technician performs daily required laboratory tests of raw materials, intermediate, and production samples to ensure the quality of the final product. The Laboratory Technician possesses training, and experience to troubleshoot laboratory equipment. The Laboratory Technician must be flexible to provide coverage Monday thru Friday and weekends, whenever necessary. The Laboratory Technician is responsible for record keeping and training all aspects of the GMP including reviewing of applicable SOP’s.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Performs laboratory tests of raw materials, intermediate and finish products as well as of environmental samples to ensure the quality of final product and environmental discharge levels.
- Generates Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and other reports as required as well as reviewing and approving the CoA’s for product release.
- Assists in analysis and CAPA development (writing and executing) activities of any nonconforming feed safety or quality issues related to Feed Safety and Quality Programs.
- Performs GMP inspections generating written records and analyses.
- Assists the Site Quality Assurance Manager in reviews all documentation related to the Quality Management System.
- Prepares and carries out the shipment of samples in compliance with DOT, OSHA or other governmental or company regulations and requirements.
- Follows the Safety, Health, and Environmental Compliance policies in all areas always.
- Has schedule flexibility to provide coverage for planned and unplanned technicians’ absences during Monday – Friday (Including weekends).
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensures work area is kept clean and free from safety hazards which requires regular bending and occasional lifting.
- Completes tasks as assigned by the Laboratory Manager, Office Administrator and Plant Manager.
- Participates in plant start-ups and shutdowns as directed.

- Associates of Science degree, preferably in microbiology, biology or chemistry required.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or University in a scientific field.

- Associates of Science Degree: With 4 years’ experience in laboratory operations or quality control in an industrial manufacturing.
- Bachelor of Science Degree: With 2 years’ experience in laboratory operations or quality control in an industrial manufacturing.
- If degree is in an area other than science, then must have 4 years of hands-on experience as a technician or manager in a laboratory environment associated with quality in food, feed or related industries.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)
Basic qualifications:
- Basic knowledge and hands-on experience of laboratory processes, procedures, and equipment.
- Experience in laboratories directly associated to production processes and quality assurance.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and prioritize workload.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner (written and verbal).

Working Conditions
- Laboratory work is in a typical climate-controlled laboratory environment.
- Continuous 24/7 plant operation – Must have flexible scheduling to cover planned and unplanned absences of other technicians.
- This position works 8-12 hours/day on day shift, will include weekends and holidays.
- Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time-sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.
- Occasional exposure to dust and odors.
- Exposure to areas with wet floors and loud noise.
- Potential exposure to high temperature associated w/ process sampling.
- Working at heights for sampling protocols.
- Use of fall arrest system protection.
- General PPE use.
