Louis Dreyfus Company Marks Its 50-Year Journey in China and Showcases New Products at 6th CIIE
Published: Nov 06, 2023

Shanghai, China, November 6, 2023 – Participating in its 6th China International Import Expo (CIIE), Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) is showcasing its newly-launched plant-based specialty feed, freeze-dried coffee powder and other products, and has signed new commercial agreements with long-standing Chinese partners for the import, processing and distribution of high-quality agricultural products to the country.

“2023 marks the 50th anniversary of LDC’s activity in China – half a century during which we have witnessed China’s impressive development and continual journey of opening-up, which we consider a key element in the pursuit of mutual benefits and sustainable success,” said Michael Gelchie, LDC’s Chief Executive Officer, while attending CIIE and Hongqiao International Economic Forum. “Looking to the future, we are committed to continuing to work closely with local partners and customers to meet the country’s growing demand for high-quality proteins, fibers, nutritious diet options and other products, and shape a fair and sustainable future of food and agricultural production.”

To meet global demand for nutritious plant-based products, LDC established a Food & Feed Solutions Platform this year, initially focused on the development of the Group’s glycerin, phospholipids, special feeds and edible oils businesses. At CIIE, LDC is showcasing its plant-based ingredients and new specialty feed protein products that offer improved feed digestibility through new fermentation technology, supporting healthy development in livestock. The Group’s CIIE booth also features its freeze-dried soluble coffee products for China’s rapidly growing coffee consumer market, its Mastergold cooking oil range, and its third-party branded, not-from-concentrate juices.

LDC hosted CIIE visitors at a “zero carbon booth” for the first time, aiming for a carbon-neutral presence at the event through the purchase of high-quality carbon credits. This approach reflects LDC’s global commitment to decarbonization across its business activities, including in China, where efforts are ongoing to reduce operational emissions – for example, by using 100% green electricity for production at LDC’s Dongguan plant, starting from January 2023.

LDC’s presence at CIIE was also marked by several agreements signed with key regional partners, covering various commercial sectors: grain and oilseed product imports and distribution, plant-based ingredients processing, as well as new sales channels for fruit juices, packaged cooking oils and coffee products.

“CIIE is a key platform and opportunity to engage with Chinese customers and partners in person, as we continue to reinforce our understanding of consumer trends, develop products and services that meet market needs and expectations, and grow with China and its people,” said Jerrity Chen, Head of North Asia for LDC.
