Safety and Health
Our goal is to create a safe workplace wherever we operate around the world.
Our top priority is to keep our people safe and healthy, protect the communities around our assets and minimize our impact on the environment. We are committed to the continuous enhancement of our Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) management system, which aims to embed a health and safety culture in the daily work of every single employee and contractor.
Commitment to Zero
Our relentless focus on health and safety is reflected in ambitious targets to reduce the frequency, gravity and severity of accidents every year, with the long-term goal of achieving a zero-accident work environment at all our sites.
Our ‘commitment to zero’ is detailed in our SHE policies and procedures.
Safety at LDC
We want to ensure that all our people, including contractors working with LDC, return home safely and without injury every day.
In practice, this means that employees at all levels are responsible for the effective implementation of SHE policies and procedures, complying with applicable laws, regulations, rules and codes.
In parallel, site managers and dedicated SHE managers in our industrial, logistic and agricultural units are accountable for ensuring consistent implementation of LDC’s health and safety programs, adopting industry standards as applicable.
Health & Safety in the Workplace
In addition to providing all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and duty-specific training to ensure the safety of our employees, we invest continually in safety enhancements to ensure that our facilities are built and maintained to operate safely, protecting employees, contractors and visitors, as well as the environment.
Our dedicated occupational health and safety teams play a crucial role in identifying and eliminating hazards, minimizing risks and ensuring the overall health, safety and wellbeing of everyone in the workplace.
LDC also ensures all staff are aware of occupational health services available to them, through ongoing communication about how to access these and allowing adequate time off to attend appointments without discrimination.
Recognizing that ensuring an accident-free workplace takes vigilance and responsible behavior from every individual, we expect all employees around the world to take personal responsibility for safety in their workplace. It is mandatory to report any health or safety incident within 24 hours through our SHE Digital platform, and it is encouraged to report any concern immediately to the occupational health & safety team.

LDC’s Global SHE Day
Each year we celebrate a worldwide Safety, Health & Environment Day across LDC, with events that involve all employees and contractors at our offices and assets, as well as many local safety and emergency service representatives who work closely with our sites year-round.
With the Covid-19 pandemic ongoing, in 2021 we continued to avoid physical gatherings, respecting all Covid safety and hygiene measures, and ‘digitalized’ the celebration through online trainings, presentations, games, contests and other activities.
Globally, more than 8,000 employees, contractors and joint venture partners participated in the event, including Executive Group members who took an active part, leading presentations and briefings on SHE highlights and priorities for the company.

Enhancing Workplace Safety in China
In 2020, LDC continued to embrace innovation to drive operational efficiency, workplace safety and supply chain sustainability, in line with our entrepreneurial heritage and transformational strategy.
In China, we teamed up with long-time partner Ping An Group, a leading insurance and technology company, to enhance our industrial risk management model.
Ping An Group trained employees at our Grains & Oilseeds facilities to use new technologies, including spatial modelling, thermal imaging and unmanned aerial vehicles, for greater efficiency and workplace safety.
