Robust Performance
In the context of high sugar prices and significant crop disruption in Brazil, due to unusually harsh weather conditions such as drought and frost, the Platform delivered a robust performance in 2021, with a positive contribution from all its segments.
Entry to Ethanol Cash Trading
Our entry into ethanol cash trading was an astute strategic move that contributed positively to Platform performance, with a particularly good ethanol balance sheet in Brazil.
Success in China
China improved its results significantly on both cash and hedging strategies. Sugar cash trading in the country continued the positive trend of 2020, significantly increasing its gross margin year-on-year.

More Sugar Highlights
Raw sugar volumes shipped by the Platform decreased slightly, but global market share remained stable year-on-year above 13%.
We continued to invest in research and data analytics to improve crop predictability in key producing countries: for instance, employing satellite imagery to estimate acreage, yield levels and harvest pace in all major crops around the world.
Our newly constructed ethanol micro-distillery in Brazil allowed the start of physical ethanol trading as global demand grows, boosted by an accelerated Indian biofuel program.
