In 2021, we continued to form new alliances in pursuit of our transformational growth strategy, while working to reinforce relationships with existing strategic customers to build dynamic partnerships that thrive and create shared and lasting value.
In September, we welcomed ADQ into our shareholder group and initiated a new phase of growth for the company with a common vision for LDC’s future. This milestone partnership reinforces LDC’s position to accelerate strategic investments as part of its long-term growth plans, including in new areas such as plant-based proteins and aquaculture.
As part of these growth plans, we laid foundations for other key business partnerships and made progress on existing joint projects – especially in Asia, with coffee joint ventures to build and operate a freeze-dried instant coffee plant in Vietnam and bring premium specialty coffees to Japanese consumers, an agreement with a Chinese e-commerce giant for distribution of LDC’s Mastergold products, and new partnerships for additional oilseeds processing capacity and aquatic feed production, strengthening our ability to meet growing customer demand.
Forging and reinforcing strategic partnerships is also central to our model for sustainable business, recognizing that collaboration enables greater, wider and longer-term positive change in our efforts to shape increasingly sustainable food and agricultural production chains, for a more resilient future.
New initiatives included a partnership with climate experts South Pole, in defining LDC’s science-based decarbonization targets and roadmap, and partnerships on carbon sequestration and emissions reduction projects in several countries.
In partnership with local experts and authorities, and as part of our long-term partnership with the Louis Dreyfus Foundation, we also continued to train and empower thousands of smallholder farmers across three continents to adopt more sustainable agricultural practices.
