Resilience in Grains

Despite the impacts of the Russia-Ukraine crisis, our large global footprint and agile trading strategy enabled us to successfully deliver for European customers, while increasing year-on-year volumes of grains originated in northern Europe and securing new market access for our corn portfolio in Ireland, Belgium and the Netherlands. Our Black Sea teams demonstrated outstanding resilience and dedication, continuing to connect Ukrainian growers to global markets (including shipments to Kenya) despite unprecedented challenges, and maintaining our position as a leading grains exporter.

Investment & Innovation in Juice

We invested to expand our juice facilities in Ghent, Belgium – already among the largest in the world – supporting the storage of increased volumes of not-from-concentrate (NFC) juices from citrus fruits grown Brazil. We also collaborated with JuiSea Shipping to convert a coaster into a juice carrier that has already shipped more than 4,000 MT of FCOJ and NFC juices from our Ghent terminal.

Dynamic Distribution

In extremely volatile conditions, our distribution offices successfully managed flexibility and rotation between origin and destination countries, adopting a customer-centric approach that avoided any serious execution issues at destination in a challenging context.

Raphael Latz
Head of European Distribution Countries

In Europe, we see an increasingly strong and continued interest in certified deforestation-free grains and oilseeds products and, longer term, target full market FEFAC compliance on all our soymeal, sustaining our competitive advantage and creating fair and sustainable value for wider soy supply chain participants.

More Regional Highlights

In Poland, LDC consolidated its position as one of the country’s top oilseeds importers while diversifying its grains product portfolio (barley, wheat, corn) and increasing grains origination volumes.

In Iberia, we increased volumes of soy shipped, which gave us an opportunity to successfully begin marketing lecifeed, enlarged our product portfolio with a profitable beans program into Portugal, and re-established our feed, wheat and barley books.

In Türkiye, we maintained our position as a top three soymeal trader, retaining market share during a very competitive and challenging period, while leveraging financial flexibility and agile asset management to minimize default impacts in cotton, which faced challenges in the country despite record import and origination volumes.

In South Africa, we re-opened our white corn export channel to Mexico and re-established LDC as one of the country’s top three yellow corn exporters.

In East Africa, we increased our palm oil imports and signed new long-term palm oil supply agreements with key clients in the region.

Following a successful pilot, we deployed the Microsoft Power BI app in all EMEA distribution countries, providing our commercial teams with up-to-the-minute market insights and analytics.
